Just because the price of diesel fuel went from 311.9 this morning at Colborns in Mora to 334.9 this afternoon doesn’t mean a thing. Just because it’s a big travel week with Christmas is just a conincedence. Really, it means nothing.

Depends on when they purchased it
sorry bud……i’m with dutchy on this one!!!!!
seems to happen every big travel holiday!!!!!
December 18, 2024 at 6:46 pm #2305782I agree!! north to south in Alex today was 20 cents different in gas.. all BS
iowa_joshPosts: 433December 18, 2024 at 7:24 pm #2305790I think a lot of the price jumping is software anticipating the market and shifting prices. Software exists that can listen to you talking about a thing, anticipate sales and adjust the price. Like you talk about bowling and later that day facebook is advertising bowling alley’s in your feed.
December 18, 2024 at 8:10 pm #2305796I’m sure wholesale prices are going up for the holidays so the retail price follows. Don’t blame the little independent station. The mega chains like KT, Casey’s, Holidays, etc. They set the price.
CaptainMuskyPosts: 23798December 18, 2024 at 8:50 pm #2305803I find my most stable prices and generally cheaper at the small station in st Stephen. Actually it’s almost always cheaper I cannot remember when it was higher even by a penny.
If a station buys fuel today and the price jumped 10 cents they jack the price up. That gas isn’t in their tanks yet. If the price drops 10 cents they hold the price steady.December 18, 2024 at 11:23 pm #2305814Prices are always higher at stations right off of the highway too. The holiday and Casey’s off of ten on golden spike road in Sauk rapids are at 2.98/gallon. Go a mile down the road to holiday on Benton drive it’s 2.66. I will keep driving the extra mile to get gas!
December 19, 2024 at 3:53 am #2305821Sadly I don’t remember the last time I even looked at prices, all I know is everything I drive is fuel or gas hungry. Big truck takes 200 every other day, and personal truck is ball park 150 every few days. No matter the price, it sucks. Make gas .99 cents again
candiruPosts: 66December 19, 2024 at 6:45 am #2305828The commodity prices of crude and gasoline haven’t really moved in months.
CaptainMuskyPosts: 23798December 19, 2024 at 7:02 am #2305829Looking at prices doesnt affect me buying it, I need it when I need it but I always find myself looking at the prices and it astounds me the variations in pricing. Some stations change daily while others could go weeks without changing.
December 19, 2024 at 7:23 am #2305832Price gouging in many sectors has been excessive for several years now. Just my opinion, but I cannot understand how people can go on and on and on about not trusting big government but not big business.

No one trusts big businesses, that’s why every one fought covid. And 100s of other things.
nordPosts: 750December 19, 2024 at 7:29 am #2305837KWIK Trip is the worse. On Monday the gas was at $2.58, Tuesday morning it went up to $2.99. It never drops by that much. Usually goes down by no more than 5 cents at a time.

Haha yep, same by me. Went from 2.69 to 2.99 in a day, but yesterday it dropped back down a nickel. Gee thanks for the discount after being bent over.

I would disagree with that. Even if folks wouldn’t call it trust, I’d say at least look the other way while big business does their thing. In the past several years a lot of inflation and large-scale rises in prices was blamed on certain politicians while many businesses made record profits. I’m not trying to start a political argument here (I prefer to not trust Democrats, Republicans, or big business FWIW) but I think there is some tacit trust of big business.
December 19, 2024 at 8:17 am #2305854Big business is crooked… they are all in each others pockets, to keep small business at bay. Supply and demand dictate prices to an extent… the demand for fuel goes up on holiday weekends, because of travel. Fuel production & delivery have to keep pace.
December 19, 2024 at 8:19 am #2305857It was $2.44 a gallon at Kwik Star on Monday, then it was $2.99 by Wednesday. Wish I would’ve filled up.
December 19, 2024 at 9:32 am #2305883No change in blends. The Colborns in Princeton today is 319.9 for diesel. A full twenty five cents cheaper than Mora.
December 19, 2024 at 9:41 am #2305888I think he’s talking about the summer/winter blend in unleaded.
That changes by Oct 1 to the winter blend and back to the summer one by May 1. There’s quite often shutdowns for maintenance at refineries during that time period too. The summer blend has an additive added to it so it doesn’t evaporate I think.
December 19, 2024 at 10:06 am #2305901Yes, diesel has a blend also. That up-charge has been on for some time.
StanleyPosts: 1144December 19, 2024 at 10:11 am #2305905Foley has been 2.88 for weeks now. Just last night the KT on 15 in sartell was 20 cents higher than the holiday right across the street. I got gas at Sam’s for 2.51

I will tell you wholesale prices usually don’t change by 50 cents overnight unless there is a catastrophe in the world somewhere. I’ve not heard of one lately.

No…. Im talking about the Diesel blends. Not sure when everyone switched to adding #1 into the blend

[/quote]Most diesel is not blended anymore. Most diesel uses a chemical additive to stop jelling. In severe cold climates (Canada, Alaska, very north US States) additive and #1 is used to stop jelling.
