Hmm, sorry. I’ll see what I can do.

Yep, click on warcanoe journals. Then click on the top story on the right side.
This Nipigon pike called my wifes name last week 24# 45″
The beauty of it is there is a larger class of pike than these to be caught. Limited but they are there!
None, I go out of Kings landing on the west side, no amenities, no nothing and camp on the lake. Keeps the riff raff away.
There is a 60′ boat that will take you out in the lake and base of off that. I believe its around 5k for 5 days per guy.
The fact is if Nipigon was easy access with nice resorts with amenities it wouldnt be what it is.

Am I reading this right…$1,000 a day per person?
read the entire article. Great read! Thanks for posting Dutch! Really made me start to daydream about that lake and the camping experience there.
Awesome stuff! BigPike can you tell us a little more about your average trip up there? Like what you need to do in advance and the logistics for getting there and setup. THanks!
Here’s a shot of a just shy of 40″ that we caught on our recent trip to N Manitoba…
Ultra light camping gear, lots of gas, pray for good weather, use a weather radio to monitor, buy a good map of the lake, two boats are better than one but 1 boat is better than staying home. Pigeon river border crossing on the right to pick up your camping permit. Read the rule book. Nipigon has special regs. No barbs, no gangs of hooks, no dead bait. It can be very hard to find camping sights on the big lake, for instance my best sight ( by far) is 30+ miles out as the crow flys with very few in between. Be prepared to search hard. There are native fishing camps around the lake but can be hidden pretty good. Overall the lake is easy to travel at least were I travel but you could hit a dead head or a rock anywhere. Its not for very many people in my opinion. I wont lie, thats the beauty of it.
1 more thing, I have had the opportunity to fish Nipigon 19 years. It takes time to learn a lake as huge as Nipigon unless you have someone to unlock the door for you. Big huge pike dont lurk in every corner. Once you figure it out though it pays big dividends. I have spent alot of time over the years asking questions, researching and paying my dues. Alot of guys who I talked too this last week were struggling this year. Its not always great. But being up there is….
That was an excellent read and now I want to go real bad. Going to have to make it happen the next few years.

x2 thanks BigPike!!!! Let’s make it happen Weedis, along w/ the Columbia River, and Big Windy, and Erie, and and and lol, maybe one of us should win the lotto first
I just got back from a trip to Nipigon Monday evening. Made the trek with Marcus Quam and hit the big lake in search of the monster pike the lake is famous for.
Bigpike is dead on with his description. 30 mile runs one way to get to the better pike water is the norm. There’s only a couple of places to launch a boat, the available maps are very inaccurate and once you’re on the water you’re on your own. We stayed at Pasha Lake Cabins each night and launched out of High Hill.
It took us about 5 hours the first day to find where the fish we’re holding but once we narrowed down what we needed to be looking for it was game on!
Rapala Glidin’ Raps and Vibrax #8 tandem super bou spinners were the hot baits for us. The bite on Saturday was pretty special with a near non stop bite on fish from 38 – 44 inches in less than 3′ of water.
The plan now is to go back in August and September!

James, big pike and vertical holds don’t mix well.Blah blah blah
Not really a response I expected from you on the comment he made.
The fish holding police get old after awhile….this one was 44″ 23#.
Studies show its bad for the fish. Very mature response.
Anyways, not trying to hijack a good thread.

That pike was not a big pike. 37 inches or so. I’d guess 13 – 15 lbs fresh off the spawn. My fishing partner caught me with the photo turning toward the camera with the fish held out as I stood to clear it from the net. All my big pike were held with two hands horizontally. You’d know that if you were there holding the fish. Like I was. Instead you get to cock off online, insinuating a lack of good judgement and ethical treatment of fish with absolutely no firsthand knowledge of the size of the fish or how the fish was actually handled.
Guys like you are why guys like me post less and less online.
Have a nice day.
And there is your dagger, its windy at the top and the critics that nit pick everything you do must get old…..thanks for sharing James!
