I want to take my 9 year old night crawler picking, I used to go with my dad to the Columbia Heights golf course 35 years ago. I live in Blaine and looking for somewhere that’s not trespassing and with the rain Friday it might be a good time.

    Thanks

I live in Coon Rapids and picked about 50 in 10 min from my front yard last night, have you tried yours with a red flashlight?

Yes, I can get all I want out of my backyard.

I’d think any city park or athletic field would be great, as long as they don’t treat the soil for grubs which is pretty unlikely.

Biggest worry I’d have these days in going on public property at night is with the Cell Phone Cop Culture where every busybody with a damn cell phone thinks they’re some kind of cop on patrol and they have to call in everything that “looks suspicious”. Inevitably these busybodies are going to embellish and that sets up the risk of a massive over-reaction based on the false report.

Bottom line is I’d find a place that’s below the brow of a hill or otherwise out of sight and I’d probably also use a red filter on my light just to minimize the chance old biddies would see me and lie to the police when they called it in.

Try just about any park along the Mississippi river. Boat landings have some to. To much sand in the area to grow good crawlers. Most areas have small ones. Along rivers seem to have more dirt, less sand
Landings I think are good due to years of crawlers being dumped.

I’d go to the national sports center. I think the whole area was former sod fields. I’d look maybe around the long drainage ditch and pond area in the soccer fields.
