Nicknames for your favorite fish

LUNCH

The kids just call big perch “monsters”, but I love their nickname for largemouth bass….”Ditch Pickles”

I think they got that from an Outdoor Boys episode on YouTube lol

Speaking of monsters, the boys are getting into them today too, along with some other dandys and a little ditch pickle

I thought ditch pickles were pike.

We just call them perch. No nick names for that species

That gill in your son’s pic has a oddly long tail section

When they are nice size ( 9-12″ ) we call them lunch or dinner
When they are BIG size ( Over 12″ ) we call the Sumo”s
When they are small ( Less than 9″ ) we call them Dinks or PITA = Pain in the ass or Bait snatchers. Boy can those small fish get a fathead off a jig easily

Haha. Ya I use that one a lot too. I’ve heard them called a sinus infection because of all the slime. I have a friend who calls them Pikenado.

Ditch pickles have always been pike in my book too.

Ditch pickles have always been <em class=”ido-tag-em”>pike in my book too.

Funny – Never heard the name ditch pickles for Pike. My friends call my artic Cat snowmobile the Ditch Pickle .

Ditch pickles are Wisconsin strain muskies. They’re all 32″, skinny, and green.

Those are jumbos, or tiger stripes Dave. Only non-keepers are called perch.

I have heard the perch called “Ditch Parrots” out in the Dakotas
They get some monsters out there too !!!

We’ve always simply referred to big perch as Yumbos

then there’s to story of old jingle lips……….yea its got so many lures hanging from the mouth he jingles whe he swims by!!!!!!

bass around our camp are called grass carp, or Jerry fish. my stepdad’s name is Jerry, he’s from wisconsin, and eats bass…….go figure.

really dont have nicknames for perch sunfish or walleyes. crappies…..i call them other peoples fish.

We always called white bass, silver bass

I call that species of fish, ring perch. Seems that one would be a big ring perch.

Big Pussy, (from the Sopranos). …had to put him back into the water, 😂

I have heard people call pheasants ditch parrots.

Grass carp, bucket mouth,= largemouth bass
(bucket mouth also used to label “talkative fishing buddy’s”)
Bronzebacks, =smallmouth bass
Stripey’s =white bass
grass Gators, snot rockets, hammer handles, toothys, and when a buddy drops one on the boat carpet it called a slimer!=northern pike

Frankenstein’s = anytime a panfish is big enough for the big double forehead

Good ole seven stripes (eight if you’re lucky)

Big Fish, Deer, Elk, anything Big…Is a Hubba Bubba!

We call Walleyes – “Fish”.

We call everything else by species – Perch, Bluegill etc.

I call walleye either waldos or walters pretty often. Pike are snot rockets or gators if they have any size to them. LM bass are green carp. Others I’ve heard but don’t use are slough tiger for perch, buglemouth bass or papermouth for crappie. A customer of mine from TX refers to any panfish as a perch.
