Nice walleye out of Minnetonka

We were out fishing for crappies, but none were to be found. The water was 56 degrees so not quite there yet. Anyway, brother caught this 25.5″ walleye and a nice bass. Nothing for the frying pan but a nice surprise. No one else was catching them in the bay I was in, but I talked to another guy who fished a different bay and he hit the crappies and a few bluegill.

I’d bet by Sunday the crappies will be going all over.

Nice. I grabbed a really nice largemouth on a north metro lake fishing crappies. Nothing better than a big bass on an ultra light!

Yes, we were bobbering with ultralights and crappie minnows. He had a pretty fun fight with both fish.

If you listen closely you will hear the walleye laugh ’cause its so close to opener.

I was out there early his morning and caught about 15 crappies ranging in between 8 and 12.5 inches. Water temp as 54 in the bays and 51 on the main lake. Lotta recreational riff riff just heading out when I left.

I use both. I usually start with a float/minnow and then after I get them dialed in I switch to plastics like gulp minnows or a vmc crappie jig.

Nice. Wish I could’ve gotten into those on Friday. The crappie contest was yesterday too so I wonder how they all did.

That’s correct, they cancelled it again about 3 weeks ago.

Lol it’s true! By noon the access was plum full of them. Just wait until summer.

Based on how things went last summer at the ramps, I wonder if the DNR is scoping out any more land to purchase for additional ramps. Last year on Saturdays, Gray’s Bay had a line starting from the street. With the popularity of boating now that doesn’t seem to have any chance of letting up anytime soon, the ramps at Minnetonka are going to be nuts. Before last summer, I could show up even on a hot Saturday and find a short line and plenty of parking spots. Not last year and won’t be this summer.

I keep thinking about the days when the Gray’s Bay launch was still a marina and people launched from the small strip of land. Held maybe 10 trucks and trailers. What in the world would we ever do now. That was also before Maxwell launch when all you had was North Arm. Again, just shows just how much more popular the lake is now.

While true, grays Bay is by far the busiest launch on the lake. There are 17 others that are less busy

I remember that old run down marina. It didn’t even have a concrete ramp. I used the access way back by the dam, but it only had about 15 parking spots and no dock. The grays bay access now is a thing of beauty and that’s the one I use most of the time now. I don’t fish out there in midsummer though.

I think the location makes it more popular because it’s the access furthest to the east and it’s very easy to get to from 394/494 from hwy 101.
