Finally got all my work from home work done that I had fallen behind on due a death that hit me pretty hard. Well I’ve been getting the kayak out on the big lake and it’s been a blast. I can ride my bike to a buddy’s shop that is on the river and launch from there. I leave the yak and gear in the shop so I can sneak out of the house without a sound. Get out on the lake at sunrise and fish until I decide to head home.

I tell you after everything that has happened in the last few weeks it was like all the B.S I was carrying just went overboard and I was able to just fish. I didn’t have to think about this that and the other. I just focused on wind, marking bait, current, and just got back to a sense of normalcy. It felt amazing to have something normal back in life.

    Water therapy.

Sounds like some social distancing paid off.

I finally did a run through of loading and unloading my Big Fish 120. It’s really heavy for a kayak, but probably one of, if not the most, stable yak out there. That’s essential for flats fishing.

I was able to do it all by myself. It’s wasn’t too bad.

Looking to get out after work tomorrow.

What are you other guys using for a kayak? Where out of? Water still has to be really cold – I have never had mine out this early. I know of some guys that where the dry suits and such…. I’m not that into it. but I do love it enough that I was looking at a new Hobie Outback before all this virus stuff flipped life upside down.

Some of most enjoyable times ever have been in the kayak.

I run an Ocean Kayak Prowler Big Game II. This time of year I wear my Striker Ice suit still. I wear a PFD as well but the suit is great since it is waterproof, and I guess this is where I appreciate the floatation. I’ve started using the kayak more and more. I’ve started smallmouth fishing the rivers be me a lot more. The peace and quiet is great. Once it’s warmer my daughter has a Ocean Trident 13 that she comes on river trips with me. She’s not ready for Lake Michigan but hopefully in the next few years.

I have a pescador pro 12. Nice sit on top kayak. Haven’t ever had mine out this early either. Will probably wear my striker ice suit too along with a life vest

When I’ve fished early or late (not quite this early) I have used lightweight waders to keep dry with other warm layers. I’ve read the dry suit is really about protection in cold water…. guess if I was somewhere besides smaller waters fishing close to shore I would be more concerned.

I think mine is a trident 13. Really want something I can last longer in due to the seat and flat sitting position. Love the hands free thing about the hobie- hate the cost though.

If you tip or fall out in water over your head. Will the waders fill up and pull you down? Or come off easy enough?

Yeah I’ve been tempted to wear waders but the thought of falling in prevents me. Maybe if you had lose waders like Dustin Dustin mentioned that you could pull off easily
