A DNR friend of mine, while doing some shocking in a SW Minnesota lake, found a 16 pound walleye shortly after the record was set. In a magazine(Minnesota Outdoors? Or some similar) later that year, an article entitled “How Long Will This Record Last?” the finding was restated. The comment was made in the article…”hopefully, it won’t be considered table fare….” Which is probably what happened, if it isn’t still swimming.

A dnr officer said they netted one that would have broke the record in a small 120 acre lake I grew up next to…There aren’t many walleyes in there but when you hook one there 25″+….That’s how I’d hope to catch it a small lake that not many people fish…

My bet is on a musky fisherman trolling a big crankbait at night, and in the late fall.Used to catch 4 or 5 , 30 inch walleyes a year here in wis. Do this on truly big fish waters,I think it would happen. MORE AND BIGGAR.

the question came up state or world record. I think for world record the Columbia river would be my bet. I don’t think that the world record will come from Minnesota. However somewhere that has shads like down south may hold the weight. a good smelt lake or herring lake would be a good bet as well. you do need a good forage.

So lets talk about what you get if you get a record fish. Is it still true if you catch it on rapala products or berkly products that they will give you money for it? I know that was true in the past wondering if they still do that. Also places like Cabelas and others will pay you for rights to the fish? I know these were all true at one point but is it still true today?
