Newer gas 3/4 ton trucks

Anyone running a newer Dodge or Ford 3/4 ton? Will you buy another the next time you replace it? Looking online it looks like 11-14mpg seems to be the norm for the dodge. I am not against buying another gm but trying to find one used with lower miles and not 30g+ seems to be tough.

I’m driving a ’14 Dodge 3/4 ton but I have the Cummins in it. Once you get past all the BS check engine stuff they have it’s been a decent truck. Transmission fell apart at 80,000 but warranty covered it. Only reason I bought Dodge was the price was much better then a comparable Ford or Chevy.

Have you looked at that lot in Cambridge? He had a bunch of Dodge trucks there last week. Don’t know if they were 3/4 ton, gas or diesel. He’s right by the tracks across from Caseys.

    Good luck.

One of the trucks I found was there. My half ton does everything I need but we are planning on buying a pickup camper. I won’t put on enough miles to justify going with a diesel or loading it down enough to need the extra power.

Almost impossible to find decent used heavier duty trucks now and the prices are crazy.

My father buys 3/4 tons and he gets calls from the dealer he buys from every year offering to trade up to new for almost nothing. He’s traded up to new twice for a couple of grand each time and then got cash back to further reduce the price so it cost him almost nothing. This seems pretty nuts to me, but just seems to show the dealers make little on new trucks, the money is in used.

None of dad’s used trucks were ever seen sitting on the sale lot for even a day. New owners drove off with them within hours, so the dealer must have had buyers all lined up. I told dad he’s going to go out into his garage one day and a car salesman will be there showing his truck to a potential buyer.

If you find something used that you like, I wouldn’t take a lot of time thinking it over.

Oddly enough its not difficult to find good looking used trucks advertised for sale on dealer lots! ive heard the same thing that you are saying that they are gone before they ever hit the lot. It leads me to believe they just leave these vehicles up advertised for sale so they can get people in the door and then explain that that vehicle “just sold before you got here! but hey, take a look at what I have here behind curtain #1”

Keep an eye out for a f-150 with the max payload package. Approx 3000lbs payload. It might be your best bet and most cost effective.

Essentially these were made to carry pickup campers.

There must be buyers standing in line for 3/4 ton used trucks. My dad lives in rural MN, so I can only imagine how fast good used ones move in the Cities.

At first I thought he was nuts to trade off a truck with less than 20k on the clock, but after cash back and considering the service that was due, wear and tear on tires, etc, he probably upgraded to a new truck for about a grand out of pocket after owning it for a little over a year. The way he looks at it, he can drive a brand new truck every year for $100 or so a month and he got the dealer to include free oil changes so he has $0 maintenance expense.

The free oil changes didn’t surprise me at all, they are probably showing his truck to a few potential buyers every time it’s in for service. He’s going to come back for his truck one of these times and it will have changed colors during the oil change and have a suspicious new truck smell.

I’ve got a friend who has a year old dodge 2500 with 6.4 hemi. He likes it. Says plenty of power. He says he gets about 15-16 mpg empty but obviously goes down pulling or putting foot into it. He previously had an 04 2500 with hemi(as do I) and liked that one too. I have 208000 on mine now and it’s been pretty much bullet proof.

I have a 2015 Ram 2500 with a 6.4 with 49k miles on it and I haven’t had any issues with it. I like the truck. The best I have run for mileage is 18 mpg. Around town it is about 14 mpg. Towing at about 75 mph I get about 10.5. Plenty of power. I had a cummins in the past too, but I wouldn’t go back to a diesel unless I was pulling a heavy trailer all the time. The diesels don’t get the mileage they used to get now with all the extra emissions choking them out.

I have a 2006 Dodge Mega Cab diesel 6 speed manual. 5.9L. I get 22 mpg no load and not towing. Pulling mpg depends on what your pulling and the terrain. Man this has the power though. 116,000 miles on it. I wouldn’t be afraid to go diesel if I were you.

I like the gm trucks mostly but those rams look sharp. The 6.4 would be a great motor I think.

Why not a half ton with payload package or add airbags suspension?

Lot more late model 2015/2016 3/4 trucks in metro area and greater metro area fleet companies renting more of them and then wholesaleing

Dutchboy how are your headlights on your 14? The ones on my 12 are horrible. I looked around online and seems like everyone complains about them.

I suppose I need to post a picture too.
