I am currently in the market for a new washer and dryer. Coming from older topload washer. What is everyone’s advise on what’s the best out there now without breaking the bank?

I have a buddy that is an appliance repair man and he told me the best one is Speed Queen. I have never looked into what they cost but I am sure they are up there since they are the best.

Our first top load Kenmores lasted a very long time. Our second front load Kenmores did not last very long. We are now 3 years into our third washer and dryers. Top load Speed Queen commercial grades and so far so good.

We just bought lg top load washer and lg dryer. I shopped and shopped. Ended up buying brand new discontinued model washer from Sears normally 550 I spent 200 with full warranty and did the same on a dryer from best buy. Saved over 600 bucks.

The speed queens are the best on the market but they are over a grand each. If you go to appliance stores they usually have a discontinued model in back. Still comes with warranty.

We just purchased a Speed Queen dryer in August. Our 1993 Maytag finally took a dump. We got last years mid grade model for mid $600.00. We have a had a Speed Queen washer for about 5 years now without any complaint. I am pretty sure that was under $800 as well.

So far so good and no issues. But from what I understand they are made simple and are easy to fix if they break. They are also made in WI.

    Good Luck.

This is what I have. I decided software updates are not something I want to worry about with a washer and dryer.

My philosophy is simple is better.

I believe we will have the speed queens for decades and I wont have to worry about it breaking through my laundry room walls if it gets off balance.

We always had Kenmore. Parts were readily available and I did my own repairs. Then we got LG front loaders with a service contract. Had a “lemon” warrantied. I forgot which one. After the warranty I had to get an LG certified technician to do work and only he could get the parts! Have had continued issues with the dryer re-set breaker. Then the washer drum bearing went out. Both about 15 yrs old. We went back to toploaders, Maytag. Home Depot has a decent sale now. It might have ended but then they will do a Black Friday which will be like a month long sale.

I have a new set of Samsung front loaders and really like them. Fast, quiet and efficient. Got them for less than half off from HD as last years model. There’s only two things I hate. The washer dispenser tray needs to be completely removed between loads to dry or it will mold underneath it. Simply opening the tray will not dry out underneath. Second is the stupid song it sings!

LOL. I know what you mean. Whenever we have people over and there is something in the laundry, they are like, “WTF is that???”

We have Samsungs, too. They were in the house when we bought it, so I know they are at least 5 years old. They’ve been good. I had to do one repair, but I blame that on my wife for overloading the washer, and I youtubed my way through it.

I hope to get a few more years out of them because our dishwasher just crapped out, and those MFs aren’t cheap (and the salesman admitted to me that 5-8 years is the life expectancy of newer dishwashers).

We got new speed queens in 2014. Top loader washer, regular dryer. They are built to commercial specs and we got a 5 year parts and labor warranty , that we will likely never need. I think we paid $1800 delivered. Highly recommend !!

We got a new set of Maytag’s from Costco earlier this year and they’ve been fantastic! I would definitely go with a top loader.

Don’t overlook Costco for these types of purchases, we saved a ton of money going through them vs. an appliance store.

We bought a Speed Queen from Simons Appliance in Inver Grove Heights. No bells and whistles but with a family of four it can keep up with our laundry. As other have said it is a bit pricier but is much more durable than others. Have had it for a few years now and no problems.

Stay away from LG, my wife bought new at our old house and they were terrible plastic junk. This was about 5 years ago, so things may have changed, but we were forced to buy an LG dishwasher (only one that fit our space) and that is terrible too.

    Look on Craigslist.

No kidding, it AMAZES me the number of people who throw out their washer and dryer ever 5 years or less because they just want something new or the old washer/dryer arent’ stainless and don’t match the rest of the laundry room.

I found a Maytag Neptune series frontload washer and dryer that was less than 4 years old. It was in a new housing development. The original owner sold the house and the new owner’s wife said no way was she going to use a wash machine that had somebody else’s underwear in it. I got the PAIR for $200. Retail was about $2300 at the time for the pair, plus tax and delivery.

My parents have a LG dishwasher and they hate it too. The racks are horribly designed and dishes do no sit in there well at all. But hey, it’s got such a pleasant jingle when the wash is complete!

Don’t get me started, that jingle goes off about 10-15 times during any dinner preparation…

One of my many chores is to order appliances for a large university (GO BADGERS!) therefore have had to replace many and Speed Queen top loaders are a great line. The mid- commercial duty are as reliable as you will find. I also believe that SQ screens the dealers that they are associated with to partner with nop-notch service and delivery.
But for efficiency and cleaner clothes I would buy front loaders. At home we have had a set of fridgidare for over eight yrs. now and no problems.

BIL is an appliance repair man. When I needed a new washer and dryer he recommended Elextrolux as his #1 choice. I don’t remember his second choice but said stay away from Samsung and LG.

I just bought new last fall. I went to Lowe”s and purchased Maytag top load washer and front load dryer. Lowe’s delivers, installs, and hauls away the old for a nominal fee. Prices were great too. These designs are time tested and are fine by me. I couldnt be happier with these appliances unless they folded my clothes too!

We bought our washer and dryer 4 years ago. I believe they are Samsung. They made it through the abuse of a move. When we moved the washer acted up, it would not shut off on the load cycle and would display an error during the wash. I thought I might have to dig into the circuit board and where the controls and hoses go in. Before doing that I made an adjustment to the drain hose. I pulled it back up a little and all the problems have worked themselves out.

Today’s washers are pretty cool. No agitator in the middle taking up room and a pre-wash cycle that will automatically balance the load for you before beginning.
