    Hey Folks,

I did some searching through previous threads, but didn’t really find the information I am looking for.

I am in the market for a new walleye jigging rod to be primarily used for 1/4oz jigging spoons, Rippin’ Raps, and Slab Raps. To be used hole hopping, in the portable, and inside the wheel house. I am looking to spend about $40, so unfortunately, I’m not in the market for a high end custom ice rod. I’m thinking 27″-30″, M or ML action. What are your thoughts?

My quick search has turned up three rods that could be good options: St. Croix Avid ice rod, Fenwick Elite Tech ice rod, and the Frabill Bro Series ice rod. Does anyone have any experience they want to share with these rods, good or bad?

    Thanks!

The wicked 13 combo 28″ rod was pretty good for style of fishing, before I got my thorne bros rods I had a couple of them.. They got a nice feel with braid on it. Reel was decent drag also.

I have a couple of the Avid Ice 30″ in both ML and M. I actually prefer them over some of my custom rods. The action is a true xf that I love. I fish a lot of jigging raps and use the ML for size 2 and 3. Anything bigger gets the M. The #4 rippin raps are okay on the ML but anything bigger I go to the M. I think you would be happy with the Avid’s.

I liked my Cabelas Fish Eagle 50 Med. rod for jigging heavier baits. They run like $35.

Picked up a Wright & McGill Tony Roach finesse spinning rod 48″ on my last trip to Cabela’s. I believe that it is a retail only rod (Rogers, Mn.) – couldn’t find it on the internet site – believe it was $29 or less

I’m currently using a medium Fenwick Elite Tech as my primary, love it and has great feel even with light bites. Don’t think you could go wrong with the st. croix either.
