Last night I purchased a new battery for my Vexilar from Mills (a generic one they had on sale for $19.99…). Is it best to charge it right away for 4-8 hours or should I use it first and drain it down before giving it a nice n’ hard charge? Stupid question that I know I should know the answer to! RR

I’d keep it charged. My understanding is that is doesn’t do a lead/acid battery any good to sit around discharged. I always throw mine on the charger whenever I can. The last battery I had in my Vex lasted 12 years.

My advice to anyone that has any kind of fishing-deep cycle battery…..Buy a $10 Multi- Voltmeter..
Takes the guess work out of it…….

Mines at least 12 yrs. also. I bought a spare two years ago for just in case, but haven’t needed it yet. Don’t forget to put the plastic tabs back on the terminals after charging. I also have a volt meter to check them because I don’t trust the signal lights on the charger.
