I bought a new F150 at the end of September. Had to finance through Ford Credit to get the best price. Only have to be with them for 60 days and I can move the financing. However, in order to move the financing, I need to have the title in hand to give to the new bank. I still haven’t received the title from the state. How long does it usually take? Or is this part of the whole screwed up computer system that the state has? Any insight?

Posts: 373December 11, 2018 at 10:13 am #1816816as of now it has been a 2-6 month wait for MN to get a title in your name and delivered to you. This is from my experience over the past year and others I know as well.

I bought a vehicle in August and got mine pretty quickly, but the finance guy at the dealership did mention to me that some people were waiting up to six months for titles due to the state’s new system.
December 11, 2018 at 10:18 am #1816822If you haven’t heard, they updated the MNLARS system and it is riddled with problems. There is likely no completely accurate timeline.
My buddy had to carry a copy of the voided check he sent to pay his registration to show the cops who wrote him parking tickets.

Yeah there is no definitive timeline for when you will get your title, thanks to the screwed up MNLars computer system. Couple million more and they might have it fixed sometime. However, you can refinance the loan without the title on a new purchase, we do it all the time and I personally just did it on my new truck. Your new lender will need the title once you receive it, but most places understand how backed up the DMV is.
December 11, 2018 at 10:48 am #1816836I got my most recent car title in about 3 weeks, the one prior (last year) took over 5 months…
December 11, 2018 at 10:59 am #1816839The MNLARS system is the biggest clustermuck MN has ever had in state IT. This is what happens when the state ignores commercial software AND working systems in other states in order to reinvent the wheel. The idiots in MNIT insisted that they could build a better system than could be bought because, you know, in MN our requirements are soooooooo unique.
And to date, nobody at MNIT has been held accountable.

That’s not true Grouse, they have reassigned about 3 or 4 different people to “lead” the program and fix. That’s about as accountable as government gets!

Called dealership and they said bank which did the financing might have it. Checked with bank, nothing. Ended up going back to DMV two months ago and got a duplicate title.
December 11, 2018 at 7:36 pm #1816996What do you guys call a title. Here, the bank holds the title until it is paid off. Wondering if there are different definitions of the title.

We still get the title, the title states the bank owns a lean over it. But is still in buyers name

What he said, and once you pay off the loan, the lien holder sends you a lien release stating that the loan is paid off.
