I was wondering if anybody had any information on what lure weights would be best for the new commander

The smaller baits I’ve been fishing with the Commander are 1/8th of an ounce spoons and the 3/16ths of an ounce (#4 Ripping Raps) on the light end and the heaviest lures I’ve tried are the 7/8ths of an Ounce #9 Jigging Raps. The Commander handles lures in that range beautifully. The Commander could likely handle heavier lures but I haven’t tried them personally. If you’re looking for a lure that will fish Rippin’ Raps, Jigging Raps, heavier spoons or in situation where you’re likely to run into big fish consistently the Commander is an awesome rod. I know last season I used it about 98% of the time when I was jigging for walleye or other larger predator species.

Sure James thanks to you I now have 3 TUCR’s and now I guess it will be 4. Glad I never tried crack or heroin because since you put a TUCR in my hand for the first time I have realized I have a addiction problem.

I was wondering the same thing since I will have a Commander this winter too. Thanks for the info James. So its safe to say that the Commander is in the middle between the Precision and the Precision Power I guess

Commander is actually on the heavier side of the Power. It is like a Power as far as the tip goes then transitions into a strong backbone.

Kinda like a souped up Power if that makes sense.

As far as power it goes
    Precision
    Power Precision
    Commander

In my opinion what sets the Commander apart from the Precision Power (PP) is the design of the taper makes it more suitable for a wider range of lure sizes. I don’t care to fish smaller 1/8th ounce spoons on a PP while the Commander handles them like the rod was built to do so. Yet the Commander is actually a more powerful blank than the PP. The taper on the Commander reminds me more of what I’m accustomed to seeing on higher-end open water rods where, in comparison, the PP has a much faster transition from backbone to tip making the PP action feel less nimble and light. Both rods have their place. If I need a heavier action rod to fish larger baits… my pick is the Commander.
