New Trolling Motor Questions

I have an old Minn Kota Co Pilot on my boat currently. It’s a 24 v system ( two batteries)

Does anyone know what it would take to upgrade to a new one with iPilot? Basically spot-lock is all I’d want, don’t need the link to graph.

Would I need new connections and / or mounting plate?

Your new trolling motor will come without a plug. You should be able to just take your old one off and use it on the new one.

I believe that plug you have is rated for less than 60 amps, that said, I’ve never had an issue.

Hey Lindy in that top photo, that white/green crap on your 3 prong plug is the first sign of corrosion from moisture. Give a spray with some wd40.

That mounting plate has the same bolt pattern.

Meaning it will likely be a new plate but I can probably use the same bolt holes?

Thanks. I changed fluids last fall but otherwise put her away pretty rough. Will do.

Thanks B man. It just looks like a mess of wires to me behind there, but hopefully I can figure it out

Assuming I buy new, is there any models that I should avoid with the bad spot lock? Or was that bad version a couple years ago now?

I’ve got a 2019 Terrova and have no issues at all with spotlock. Never even bothered putting the puck on.

??? Then you’re missing one of the best features (jog)

Lindy, as long as it’s a bluetooth version you’re good.

The older versions were alright, the bluetooth version is crazy.

Lindy, I have a 36v terrova with same plug, you’ll be fine. When I bought my boat I had a gen2 terrova on it, talked to dealer after 3 months and told him spot lock was junk, don’t get a gen2, if it’s gen1 or gen3, I believe you’ll be fine

    Thanks Guys

Just to clarify, Hallberg marine has a new Terrova US2, 80 lb thrust, 60 inch shaft for $1850.

Would this be a good replacement for me assuming I just want the reliable spot-lock feature and no other bells or whistles?

Also I am used to using a small remote and wearing around my neck. I think this comes with the bigger remote, but can I purchase the Minn Kota I-pilot Micro remote and will it work?

Yes that is the motor you want. If you can find that price online Scheels will match it too (I found one on amazon for 1799 a couple months ago and they did it). Cabelas will match as well and even undercut it by 5% if you have their credit card. Not sure about the micro remote question.

If you have Facebook, there was one posted for sale for 750$. Just posted. Might be worth checking out. It appears to be brand new. I thought about buying it and reselling it lol
