New Trim Tabs Installed on WX2060

Finally got to installing my trim tabs. 9×9’s ProTabs from PowrTran with joystick control. These things are awesome!

I have about a half inch of clearance from the tab to the kicker motor when fully turned. I was nervous about this but I have plenty of space without a kicker spacer.

Thanks to the Boat Center for giving me advice on a Sunday as well. I have a drill bit on order to get through the big foam filled pod that is under the rear deck so I can run the control cables through. Other than that its plug and play and they’re done.

thanks for the post, and the pics. looking forward to how it handles. was looking at 9×9 lencos for a wx 2025 obviously you think that the pro tabs are worth the extra. I will have to look into them. the joy stick takes the thinking out of the leveling trim. let us know when you get on the water. do you know if they have the auto tab up function when key off????
    thanks again

Getting pretty busy on that transom. grin What are you hooking your tie down straps to? The Jackplate?

Looks like it in the picture showing the whole rear of the boat w/motors.

Yes I do have a lot going on with my transom. All is good though, Jackplate is coming next year probably. Yes I had to attach to the jackplate for now. I tried to move the tie down from the position its in with the picture to the outside LED circle marker light. The problem was the hole was way to big. I might have to move a reflector and drill a new hole. See a lot of guys running around attached that way and figured it would be fine for a little while.

To answer someone else’ question about the auto up function, there is the option to do that. When the throttle is put to neutral or if you turn the key off they can be wired to auto up which is nice. The entire system is basically plug and play so install wiring was very easy. You do have to tap wires if you want the auto up feature which isn’t a big deal.

The reason I like these better than the Lenco is first the ball joint attachment. Makes not having to to be perfect with install if something is in the way as they can be off center just a touch if need be. I like the U channel design of the tab as well. Adds a bit of stability, and the joystick like someone else said is VERY nice for taking all the thinking out of what you need to do.

PowrTran also does make a compact actuator as well if space is limited which is a nice feature. Mine or not the compact model.

The porpoising is completely gone, my speed in rough water has increased and is a LOT smoother. One other big benefit was low speed planing. My boat 2060 really didn’t have the best plane speed, I needed a bit more speed and was bow high.

If someone asked me whats 1 accessory for your boat you wouldn’t get rid of I would say the Tabs. I would never own another boat without trim tabs. I always heard people say it but after getting to run now in one its bar none the best add on a person can do. Dean Marshal said this to me and he is totally right.

A cool shot from yesterday. Getting to really love having trim tabs! My planing speed went from about 24ish MPH down to 18MPH. Which makes finding fish easier while graphing as I get a better reading. load leveling is a HUGE advantage as well! I do have them all the way up in the photo You can see the spray on the other side a little bit. I was leveling the boat out as I had two guys on 1 side for the shot.

mann4ducks, I hope that your tie downs on the transom will not have a wear issue.

You can’t use the stock hook spots. I had to run the hooks to the holes on the bottom of the jackplate that works fine. I still will probably move them out to the outside of the trailer fender where the LED light is so I can use the stock hook rings again.

Chris I looked at that location but only fiberglass fender there I am going to add a 1×3 piece of tube steel or alum to the outside of original location and then attach ratchet mech there towards the outside it will block lighting partially but still leave plenty of view of the lights. Allows for a stronger mount however I have had a trailer break loose and went off and into the ditch the boat straps do not hold the boat on the trailer they snap the strap and the boat leaves the trailer behind

Then your straps aren’t strong enough.

Not strong enough to hold a 3200# boat on the trailer hitting a Ditch at 50 mph the tonge of the trailer stuck in the ditch the momentum of the boat kept it going and sheared off the winch stand and snapped off the two 2500# rated straps. The boat ended up approx 200’ ahead of the trailer. April 2000 close to Payson AR.

I’m just saying legally, the load is supposed to be secure. No matter what happens. Out of curiosity. Did the trailer have brakes and did they appear to do anything or slow it down?
