Sister in law just had hers repaired hers is also a 2016 don’t know exactly what has wrong but it would slip after got got up to temp when under hard acceleration or when shifting hers cost 2200 to repair. I think she said new remanufactured would have been about 3800
189,000 miles on vehicle been pretty much trouble free.
Thanks for the responses.

Yep, since August of 2016, traveling salesman, all work miles.
Sorry to hear about your troubles, they did have issues but I heard they fixed it by that year but I guess not. Probably going to be 4000-6000 to replace it with a rebuilt unit, at the shop I manage we usually install rebuilt GM units and it it closer to the later number. Feel free to PM me if you want or need my help. The GM unit will come with a 3year 100,000 mile warranty, I’m in the north metro.
Do they not come with a 5 year power train warranty?
Is there a powertrain warranty that covers 189,000 miles or 5 years?
Nothing is going to be covered with that many miles regardless of how old it is
Walser lifetime bumper-to-bumper is supposed to cover it. Haven’t had to use mine yet, so don’t know how legit that warranty really is. 2015 Acadia, absolutely no issues what so ever. Really do not know why Acadia’s get such a bad rap, have many in my family, plus the Buick Enclave, and no one has had any issues. Great vehicle.
May have to trade it for the new GMC Hummer EV though, that thing is COOL!!!
I had a 13 Traverse with 175k on it before the tranny started to go. Shop told me $4200 for a rebuilt. Dealer gave me $4k in trade for it, dumped it almost immediately!! Now I have a 17 Acadia. I change my own oil. Every other change, I drain the tranny fluid (4 qts drains out), and re-fill. Easy drain plug to get at too, cheap insurance I guess, or at least I hope it is!!
Well car is at the shop, $3800 estimate, rebuilt GM unit warranty, should be ready on Monday. Now I am not mechanical at all but found it peculiar that they asked about spark plugs. They will put a new set in. Why would these be needed for transmission and how would they effect it?
Thanks for all the responses.

2016 with 190,000 miles and you have never change the plugs, it’s over due…. also did you ever have the transmission fluid changed ?
If not that was way over do also.

My guess is that they’re a PITA to change, and they’ll be much easier while they have it disassembled for the tranny, so they’ll just take care of them now.
190K on a tranny doesn’t seem too bad to me. Sucks to bite that bullet, but that’s a lot of miles.
Vehicle is at a transmission shop. Just wondering why the question about spark plugs. All of my vehicles have excellent PM and are all usually very dependable.

Yes, I believe the easiest way to get at the back 2 is to drop the transmission. My wife had a Saturn Outlook and it was that way, but it was a few years older so they may have changed it.
Also, regarding transmission maintenance asked by igotone, you can drain the tranny fluid, but I dont believe the filter is a serviceable item.

They’re doing you a favor by changing them as long as they’ve got it apart. It has nothing to do with the transmission.
Yup… engine and transmission will be pulled from car. Much easier to replace plugs and coils while engine is out.
Fix and get rid of it. It will 1000 dollar you to death.
I love it when guys jump in telling people to dump a vehicle before they know how many miles are on it.
AWD is just harder on transmissions. I don’t know anyone who has an AWD vehicle of ANY stripe that has gotten 200k on the tranny. I got 186k on my last GM AWD SUV before the tranny went.

Seems very reasonable to me for a unit with a warranty and a fast replacement besides. $4k and if she goes another 4 years, that’s cheap transportation in my book.

Plugs may or may not cause drivability with transmissions. Probably easier the change an engine maintenance item during the trans rebuild.
I have a Chevy work truck that I keep maintained. Occasionally I replace the plugs since this truck runs better with fresh plugs. At the last change, the computer through a misfire code that set the check engine light. What was different was the transmission service light and hard shifting. Never had that before. I changed plugs and cleared the misfire code. Trans light went away. Everything went back to normal with no other codes stored or that I can find.
Moral of the story is that a slight misfire here and there due to ignition components wear , “may” cause other systems to act funny. Better to change and eliminate potential future issues especially with a maintenance item.

Seems like a pretty good deal. GM tranny retails for $3295.
Labor is like 12 hours.
