I’m a newbie when it comes to open water walleye fishing. Mainly ice fish. My question is what rods do you recommend length, action, and brands. I’m not worried about price as I will be buying over a period of time. Will be fishing mainly Mississippi river.

Looking for a vertical jigging rod will fish jigs 1/16 Oz up to possibly 1/2 oz

    Rod for pitching plastics

    Rod for blade baits

And rod for 3 way rigs with jigs and 3 way with floating rapalas.

Thanks for any advice help and suggestions.

Are you wanting an all around winner or one for each. The best all around in a 7’mf. My blade rod is 6’10” mlxf. Like that for jigs too. I like the eycecon bounce and troll for three ways. Most of the techniques you are referring too the same rods will work well. I’m partial to st croixs. Also depends on how much you want to spend per rod. Jig rods I spend more for the sensitivity. All I run is extremes and I have a few tournaments. I have one eye one the bounce and troll.

Croix loomis or fenwick are all good choicestuff it’s just going to depend whats comfortable to you
Make sure u pair each rod with the reel you are looking at as well
You could have an extremely sensitive rod but you put to big or heavy of a reel on it you defeat the purpose

I just got a fenwick elite tech walleye 6’9″ and it is my first nice fishing rod but it has amazing what you can feel. I have never used a st croix and I was going to get a lower end one but I found this fenwick for half price on ebay, I would recommend it.

I own mostly fenwick rods and really like what they have. You can get a great rod for 100 bucks with a lifetime warranty. I’ve fished other brands but imo fenwick is the best bang for your buck. 6’6″ M Moderate and a Fast should get you a good start. Both can be used in many different applications. Good luck

I haven’t used every brand. However, I will say I purchased a Fenwick HMG 7ft medium fast early this year and I can’t believe how nice it is compared to the old rods I was using before. The sensitivity is amazing, and it’s super lightweight. I can’t imagine going, back to my old ugly sticks after jogging with the HMG.

    IDO Pros-

I am interested in hearing what rod/reel/line combos you use for jigging/rigging/trolling for Walleyes? If money was no object.

    Thanks!
