New to me boat with throttle question

Recently purchased a 2012 Alumacraft with a 2011 Yamaha F90. Its been over 20 years since I owned a console boat. I noticed that when I go full throttle the RPM’s stop increasing but the throttle handle goes a little farther. Could the cables be a bit sloppy?

I am thinking that maybe the cables need some adjustment but am not sure. I can probably dig in there and figure it out but thought I would ask first.

Can anyone advise? I looked for a video on all mighty all knowing Google but found nothing. So If you know of a video of a how too that would be great too.

    Thanks

    cheers

I think you need to define your max allowable RPMs and check if motor is hitting the number or not

Cables can and will stretch with age, so there’s one maybe. The motor may have a limiter which stops the carb from opening further even if it seems there’s more throttle available….if the motor is carburated. Cheers has offered yet another maybe.

My 2019 Impact does that. As a first time owner I just assumed it was natural.
Once I push it past a certain point there is no “increase” in speed or rpms.
I usually push it 3/4 if I want to go faster and trim the motor to get the top end speed I can get.

My 2022 Classic 165 CS with 60 Merc FourStroke does the same thing. Max 5500 rpm.

    Thanks everyone
I will check the max RPM on it and go from there but it sounds like its somewhat normal operation.

Congrats on the new boat clarence!!

Just make sure your getting the rpm you should and the rest is just play in the throttle.

Be more worried about it being sloppy at idle,it can hunt for idle if the linkage is sloppy there.
At wide open i bet its fine, even if the throttle blade is an eighth inch off you won’t notice any difference between there and the blade standing straight up/out depending on configuration.

Any questions pm me and I’ll walk you through it.
