Hey guys! New to ice fishing in a hub house I’ve always been in flip overs, tip up fishing, or wheel house fishing. Just wondering if you guys have any must have mods or must have equipment ( have all the basic thing auger, hummingbird, heater) i’m running a Otter XTH Pro Lodge Thermal. Any advice is great!! Thanks!!

Good seating…I overlooked that first few times I went out in my hub after always using a flip over…pick up a good sportsmans folding chair, I picked mine up at LM Fleet. So much better in a chair than sitting on a bucket IMO

I will second that one. Got by with the standard cheap folding camp chair for a while but took up too much room and not the easiest for a fat dude to get out of quickly to grab a deadstick. I have the larger Eskimo triangle folding chair now and find that one pretty comfortable and takes up much less space.

I use a chair similar to this. Folds up decent for the trip out and doesn’t take up as much room as some fold out picnic style chairs. the little side table can also be nice!

I have an otter hub also but bought the clam hub house light. its small, but gives off a ton of light when hooked up to a vexilar style battery. Kinda spendy at $50 but id still recommend them.

I’ll also agree with a good chair but I love one that swivels. Below is one I bought but they make much cheaper ones that are just as affective.

IMO this would be the cat’s meow for hub houses. Heck, it would be great in a wheel house, too.

I dislike the standard sportman’s chairs on the ice because most have your knees above your hips, which makes it tough to clear a ducer or scramble for a bobber rod like John says. I would also prefer the Eskimo triangle chairs for a budget friendly option and/or extra seating. Good luck with what you decide.

Find a way to get the flasher up off the ice… It makes a huge difference in neck stiffness. I carry a little folding clam shovel to snow it in and clear the site… Lots of snow needed for a big pop up lol. Always anchor the base of the side facing into the wind before popping it. Don’t ask how I know. If you have two or three guys and want to make a short move then you can slide it over with it popped. Think about how you string your tip-ups with the windows of the pop up. It is nice to look out the window for a flag rather than standing up to see. The holes are drilled different for three guys. Other than that, get that thing out and use the hell out of it. Congrats on the purchase!!!!

Hole configuration is another thing to consider, depending on how many people you are fishing with. I prefer to have them staggered so everyone sits in the middle of the house, with the holes close to the walls, if I have more than two people in my Eskimo Quickfish 3i, but other people set them up differently. A lot more options for different things in a hub vs flipover.

The tool for drilling in the stakes. Shovel for banking.

I haven’t used them in my hub yet but the otter led lights put out a massive amount of light and they are adjustable so you can just use as much as you need. I would suggest a fan to circulate the heat as well. I haven’t had them in my hub yet but I got some eva floor mats for the ice to keep your feet off the ice and they worked great in my flip over and they can go flat in the bottom of your sled.

Agreed on comfortable seating. At the St. Paul Ice Show, I tried out a Mity-Lite” folding chair that is very light (duh) and very comfortable. I just ordered 4 of them on eBay yesterday and will be using them in my Hubs.
The best price I’ve seen is at Sam’s Club. I’m not a member there, though.

Those Cabelas swivel chairs look sweet, too, Bob. Bummer that they’re out of stock.

Paralleled a few 12Vs together in the bottom of a waterproof tub, with a USB, a cigarette lighter, and a standard 3-prong style outlets mounted on the tub. Packed in cutout foam and false floored into the bottom, and tub is also used to transport electronics,
Etc. Tub also doubles as a table. Nice to have a dry box as well, as a floorless hub with a heater going all day gets wet.

Can charge my cell phone and flasher at the same time while running an LED light strip on a dimmer that velcros to the roof. Can watch movies, charge USB headlamp, make coffee, run a hot plate to fry fish, etc. Used a charger from an old flasher to recharge the batteries, and replace batteries if needed.

Best thing I’ve ever invested in for hub fishing, and built it myself for relatively cheaply. A simple portable power source can take hub fishing to another level.
