Hello, need some boating advice. Just bought a bowrider boat that came with a Hummingbird Helix 5, Chirp G2. I would like to boat on the florida west coast, Clearwater, Ana Maria, Lido Beach etc. What settings or maps do I need for my Helix 5 that will tell me how to get from my boat ramp to a specific beach? Can the Helix 5 work like a regular car GPS that will tell me know the route I need to take to avoid any sandbars or other water hazards? Any help will be appreciated, kind of new of using a marine GPS. Thanks.

Most of us on this forum are from the Upper Midwest and Ontario, so you might want to find a Florida-based forum. My only advice would be to get the Navionics chart for your area. I’m not sure how accurate it is for saltwater. You can preview it in the chart viewer on your PC.

Thanks Ron for the info, I will look for a Florida-based forum. In the meantime I will look at the navionics charts.

No it will not plan your route for you that you have to do as you look at maps of the area you are going. You should be able to go into the navigation and find a maps menu and scroll thru to see what is on the unit already. Some of the Humminbird`s have built in maps and many cover the coast line.
