Im new to the bird world. Trying to get my helix 12 setup like I want it. Is there a process I’m missing to save the changes you made? Problem is when I “hide” certain screen views that I don’t need they always come back the next time I turn on the unit. Thanks for the help.

If you go through the proper shutdown process with the power button it should save your settings. If you just unplug it they won’t be saved. That’s all I can think of right now.

I do hold power button and let it shut down completely before killing main power. Tested it a few time last night without hitting master power switch. Still does it. I hide the radar screens and when I power back up that is the first thing it comes to. Could it be something with normal/advanced mode? I believe I have it in advanced now.

Is it installed on your boat with the transducer plugged in?
Is it set-up to start in regular mode rather than demo mode?

like Mike mentioned, make sure to start up in normal mode vs simulation; and make sure you have the newest update available for your unit

It is in boat with everything hooked up and on normal mode. It could need updating. Helix was new last spring, I bought the boat in late summer and have not done any updates yet.

Well several but main ones I noticed keep coming back are the radar views.

i assume you don’t actually have a radar connected, right?
also, are you sure you’re seeing a RADAR view and not a BIRD’S EYE view of your boat on the map? that one can look sort of like flying.

assuming you’re tracking on those things, try these steps in order:

    1) Update Software:
    – export (save) your navigation data from the Helix to an SD card
    – remove card, set aside for later
    – press MENU > MENU > Setup (tool icon) > Restore Defaults > Yes
    – EXIT > EXIT
    – power OFF

    – on your computer, go to humminbird.com > MyHumminbird
    – sign in to your account, select My Equipment, select the Helix unit
    – download the latest software update version
    – export the software to a different blank SD card

    – power ON
    – during Title page > MENU > Start Normal mode
    – place SD card with software update in the Helix
    – follow on-screen prompts to update; remove card when complete
    – power OFF

    2) Turn Off Radar:
    – power ON
    – MENU > MENU > Setup (tools) > User Mode > Advanced
    – press and hold VIEW, select RADAR > RADAR VIEW
    – IF a dialog box appears, make sure Radar is set to OFF (not Tx)
    – EXIT > Accessories > Radar
    – select Timed Transmit, select OFF
    – EXIT > EXIT
    – power OFF

    3) Select Views:
    – power ON
    – MENU > MENU > Views
    – mark both Bird’s Eye and Radar options as “Hidden”
    – EXIT > EXIT
    – insert SD card with navigation data; follow prompts to import
    – EXIT
    – power OFF
    – power ON

It is definitely the radar that keeps coming up. I’m gonna start with the update and go from there. Thanks for the help.

Well I did the update last Friday and problem solved. Probably should have just looked into that in the first place. Thanks for the help.
