What are you looking to target? How much do you want to spend?

I am looking to target largemouth bass and I am trying to spend $150 less.

There are many options out there but I would get a Daiwa Legalis reel, and pair it with a Shimano Convergence or Clarus rod. With the Convergence you will be at around $130 and with the Clarus you will be right around $150.

The Legalis reel from Daiwa is about the best bang for your buck on a spinning reel and both the Convergence and Clarus rods are very sensitive for a budget rod.

My first piece of advice would be to wait for the spring sales. I don’t know where you are located but if you are in the Twin Cities Joe’s sporting Goods has a spring sale every April where their rods are typically 30% off and reels 20%. Your $150 will go a lot farther then. Beyond that Diawa makes some nice spinning reels under $100.
