Are these people really serious? New steps to replace the police department with some community response unit? Can’t get far enough away.

From what I’m understanding…from what I read, the city council voted unanimously 12-0 to move this measure forward.

If it continues on its path, it would then go to a referendum vote to city residents in November.

I wonder how many Minneapolis residents would vote in favor of this? shock

That’s interesting. The mayor and chief of police have both openly admitted that they are against this. I don’t know if the council can simply over ride it. The one thing I haven’t heard is Walz chime in about it. I highly doubt he would allow the biggest, most populous city in our state to go on without any kind of law and order.

To be more specific, this measure is to change or amend the city charter. Which they would need to be successful to then subsequently rename/rearrange/do away with?, the current contract with the police dept.

The thing some people don’t understand is that these council members, the Mayor, and Governor don’t care what so ever about what is the best for their citizens. All they care about is their getting re-elected. These people should be forced to live in the worst part of Minneapolis without any police protection and see how that works out for them. If I was a police office I would not respond to any calls to these peoples homes – I would also make it know that I would not be doing any patrol’s anywhere near where they live. See how they like living with a Bulls eye on their chest everyday.

To be fair, Mayor Frey is adamantly opposed to this measure…and was right from the beginning when it was first proposed.

He may have failed in most all other aspects of his job, and like him or not…I give him credit for standing up against this current nonsense.

Then I say he can get a pass for now. Sadly his run as a mayor is most likely over after this term. His approval ratings have taken a hit I’m sure.

Bill Orielly sums it up perfectly as usual:

It is almost beyond belief that America is being trashed the way it is. I mean, here we have a country that provides more opportunity to more people than any other nation the planet has ever seen, and millions of its own citizens apparently want to destroy the traditions making that possible.

Never mind that tens of millions of folks all over world are trying to become American citizens. Forget the absolute fact that the USA freed billions of people enslaved by fascism, communism, and Islamic fundamentalism. Totally ignore our Constitution, and economic strength based on hard work as well as ingenuity. Throw out our willingness to spend trillions to support the poor, not only here but abroad.

Yes, reject those facts and kneel in contrition to a false view of America. One that is championed mostly by radical leftists who see the USA as an evil institution built on the backs of slaves and poor, exploited minority people. Kneel and allow criminals to go unpunished, police to be demonized, babies to be aborted for any reason, private property to be destroyed, and your fellow citizens harmed if they dare challenge the liberal agenda.

Kneel. Cower before the twitter mob that rejects President Lincoln’s statement “and malice towards none.” Hope the brutish mob bypasses you.

Virtue-signaling is now a pandemic. Insanity and psychic violence on gross display in prime time. The corporate media loves it, profits from it, embraces the potential destruction and “enlightened” change the mob demands.

Never again should American voters be allowed to elect a person like Trump. Now if you support him and the Republicans, you are not only deplorable, you are a racist. You are not worthy of any consideration or even a job in some cases.

George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Christopher Columbus, all were terrible men. Their statues and accomplishments must be destroyed. It is virtuous to highlight their sins. It is noble to spread the big lie: America was founded on white supremacy and the country still runs on that.

So kneel while the Woke mob burns our history, ignoring this reality: no person, no nation, is devoid of sin. But it is the totality of a life that must be honestly evaluated as well as the totality of a nation.

The mob will never acknowledge that truism. The mob has no specific solution to any problem. It only wants revenge for past injustice so it can rule in the present. And the politicians, corporate chieftains, celebrities, professors, journalists, and even the clerics fear the mob.

    So kneel. Or else.

    Very well said applause

I hate to say it but I almost wish they would remove police from Minneapolis so all the “woke” community could get a dose of reality and finally step outside of their fantasy world.

Oh wait…..They don’t live in the neighborhoods that would be affected by this……

I would guess it will stop when they announce the cost of such a thing right before the referendum.

If I was a Minneapolis Police Officer and got a call to assist one of these council people, I think I’d take my time. Get a coffee and a dozen donuts and have a little sustenance while on my way to the call, now that they have rent-a-cops watching over the council people. I’ve always maintained that ANY elected official needs no protection if they are doing their job right.

These people deserve NO protection at tax payers expense. Let a civilian police force protect them. After all its is what some of them think is best to protect the residents of the city. Let them be the test model.

NYC is voting to remove 1 billion from their police budget. At the same time their shooting incidents have gone up 129% since last year. These urban areas need more cops, not less. All of this to appease a relatively small left wing mob.

If Minneapolis follows suit it will be the next Chicago or Detroit.

    Absolutely INSANE.

funny, the one’s that seem to want to restrict what gun the law abiding citizens can own because it’s “not the wild, wild west” want to turn the country into the wild, wild west.

The star tribune reported yesterday that the City of Mpls is paying $4500/day for security of several city council members. So they’re voting to remove something they need on a daily basis? That’s another level of hypocrisy. Riddle me that

I’m betting somebody, somewhere has justified the cost as being cheaper then the almost annual lawsuits against the cops that result in multi million dollar payoffs.

Bottom line noone should get death threats. FBI is involved so perhaps it’s to do with gay trans CMs, not sure, just speculation why the feds are involved for possible hate crimes.

I understand the argument since I live there, but noone should have to deal with that.

Now excuse me, omw home I’ll have to dodge folks running red lights and speeding bc they took away traffic enforcement division, and duck under bullets that the city leaders allowed to manifest over years of bad policies. coffee

wonder which Federal agency is best at community counseling?

The US Fish and Wildlife Service. Lots of wining and arguing over something irrelevant to outdoor sports. Maybe the service can ween them off of Facebook that brings the subject over here. AIN’T FACEBOOK enough for them and the others.

    How’s it going in Seattle?

Seattle’s police took back their city today. That should have been done weeks ago.

    Thanks Beads.

This boils down to police being optional at the discretion of a newly appointed bureaucrat.

If people don’t get out and vote against this madness then we deserve what we get.

Dissolving police depts in blue cities may have some merit. Blind justice and the rule of law mean nothing in those areas anyway. Heck, ship in pallets of ammo instead of bricks and let em have at it. There would be fewer low information voters.
