For those who haven’t heard or seen what Otter is coming out with yet, here are the new shacks for this year with side steps.

This is good to see. Fished out of a Frabill sidestep last year, but was lacking some quality/attention to detail. Nice to see the windows on the doors and not behind the seat. Looking forward to seeing more information!

Why is the resort cheaper than the lodge?

Wonder why they made the bench seat models non-thermal? Doesn’t really make sense, I figured most shelter brands were moving towards all thermal shells.. The xt bench seat models always caught my eye due to cost but non-thermal would be a deal breaker.

I was wondering the same, googled it up and see upnorth sports already have them online, I’ve seen them be the first to list new ice gear other years also.
Also according to there site the XT bench models are still 600 denier with insulation, maybe another typo Fishtrekker? )

Why would they not be? previous years XT was 600 insulated… As far as I am aware its mostly just bench vs buckets

I was at reeds 2 winters ago talking to a otter rep. I mentioned how I liked the side doors of the frabills. He told me otter was working on it. Had to wait 2 years but glad I waited for the otter. Now just gotta pony up.

Has anyone seen one yet? I’m curious if the frame/pole set up is the same as a Frabill or if Otter came up with something new? I’ve been fishing out of a Frabill sidestep for a few years now and I love it. Sure there are some things I’d change and the quality isn’t up to Otter standards, but at the time I bought it was the best option for my needs. I’m excited to check these out, they look like a good option when its time for me to upgrade.

2 years too late for me…I’ll stick with the previous generation with all the issues worked out of it…will be interested to see if they simply copied what frabill did for the front support bar setup or if they went another direction…

    Ben – I just read your post…lol we’re thinking the same thing…

The XT series uses Otter ThermalTec triple layer thermal shell – 600 denier.

The XT Pro series uses Otter ThermalTec triple layer thermal shell – 1200 denier.

Otter has a new Quick Switch frame that allows anglers to convert their X-Over shelter from traditional front door entry to side door entry and back again, should someone choose to do so, in seconds. You’re not limited to side door or traditional entry. You can have it the way you want it.

Does it have 2 side doors or just a single? Strange how it could be switched back and forth but I’d like to see it in person. I have a xt pro resort which is a awesome shack but to heavy when it’s just me. Maybe I’ll have to look at the smaller 1 of these and use it as my by my self shack.

there’s two side doors, one on each side. These two new doors are in addition to the front door that has been standard on all Otter ice houses.

It is kind of hard to tell by the angle of the one photo, but is the front wall more upright than previously? Frabill did that with their side entry model, curious if Otter did similar.

I like the idea of this and will definitely be checking them out. I need another house, I am just torn as to which model.
I have 3 boys and 2 of them fish a lot. I don’t fish alone too much, but its a bit too much for the Lodge for all 3 of us. I don’t really want a Resort because its enormous, so I have thought about a hub shack for the days when the kids go with.

Trouble with that is I need a dang sled to haul all the stuff for that hub anyway so why not just get an additional flip over?
I should probably get a Cabin I am thinking. It would work for a big 1 man and that along with the Lodge would be good if both my kids and I go out. I could just get a 1 man flip over I guess for if I fish alone or use in addition to my Lodge.

    Tough to decide.

If the angle of the front wall has been changed it is so minor that I didn’t even notice.

Thanks James for the input. I haven’t seen one but I’m pretty sure I’m sold. Just have to talk the wife in to it being a necessity

Just bring the kids into it, or future kids. That’s how I ended up with 2 new interstate group 27’s in the fish house (I put the “old” ones in my boat), a new interstate battery in my pickup, new tires on the wheel house (10 ply sidewalls and all), and a 10” auger bit for the Ion. Only had to catch the old lady after a vigos jean party (aka a ???? party) lol.

So these are a 3 door model now? Front and both sides for the one price listed or do you have to order the extra ones?

All Otter X-Over ice shelters have two side doors, one on each side, and a front door – standard.

I don’t like the seating choice that they use in the lodge. The bench is heavy and I didn’t like the bucket seat set-up. You used to be able to buy everything separate to set-up the way you want. Is that possible anymore? Sure like the side doors.
