New net?

Thinking of replacing my old coated nylon net I bought at cabelas 15 years ago. Bee a good net but getting less and less snag free with each fish. Since it is pretty close to start pulling cranks around, I am thinking of replacing it.

Beckman still the way to go? Has anybody tried the new frabill series of nets? Is there any features to look for that makes netting fish easier? Pretty sure I do not want to buy a rubber net due to weight and fish solo sometimes. I also am not a fan of the ego nets. My net has a holder in the boat and lays in the bottom while trailering. So no storage issues.

X2 on Ranger. Had a new Beckman and liked the weight, but the net would rotate around handle. Ranger is heavier, but with hex handle it doesn’t turn and feels solid

A lot of the hex handle nets allow for swapping net baskets for other species. I have a walleye hoop and a chinook salmon hoop that works with the same handle.

Rangers are great nets. The octagon handle is awesome and so is the price.

My only gripe is they come with sharp edges on the yoke that will cut/nick your leader.

Five minutes with a Dremel will save you some frustration on the water.

I will be in walker towards the end of the month… I think I will look at the ranger nets at reeds there and decide. Just have to do with the old one for a couple weeks. Thanks guys!

I just bought another Frabill tonight. The head came off my old one this weekend. This new one has a handle inside the net area I’m not entirely crazy about but I like the build of the net since it’s metal and it only ran about $85.

I have an extra Beckman you maybe interested in.

Planning on bringing it to Walker in case one of the grandson’s drop mine into Leech.

Forgot about that. I would buy it if the price is right

If you are happy with the size and handle of your current net then just measure the hoop size and purchase a nice replacement bag… I believe you can get either a ranger tangle free or also beckman for around $25-35 at fishusa.com. This is what I did with my last net and it was like purchasing a whole new net for 1/5 the price.

You have been on the “right” side off these deals for almost 39 years!

A last minute purchase, I picked up a new Clam net from Fleet Farm. Actually, for the money, its a pretty decent net. Was going to try a Ranger from other posts on here, but this one works well enough I have not made it in to Reeds yet to get one.

Another happy Ranger net owner here, it has scooped plenty of fish no complaints!

I bought an Ego net as a backup to my Beckman. I find that I use the ego more and more over the last several years. Unless I think there is a true 7 pound plus fish on the line, I usually grab the Ego.

Brand new, never used. I don’t catch any fish big enough to need a net.

    https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/DotLine_Seamless_Molded_Rubber_Net/descpage-DLSMRN.html

10 years strong on this one. Easy on the fish, easy on the line, easy to get hooks out of, easy to dry, doesn’t stink, easy to stow in the boat between fish, and fits in a rod locker when it’s not needed.

It’s on the small side, as pointed out in reviews, but it stretches and cradles the fish nicely. It’s had 30″ walleye or double 28″ers in it. Telescopes just fine, despite what one reviewer said. That person probably struggles with toasters too.

With upcoming July 4th sales, this could be had for about $40 with free shipping at $50.

I have a Walleye Master (I think it’s a Stowmaster) and I would not recommend. I was looking for something that wouldn’t catch trebles as bad but this is not the net. Where the seam in the basket is molded together is an absolute hook magnet. They bury in that seam and are impossible to get out.

The telescoping handle is also poor quality. The anodized aluminum is fine but it’s too easy to slide the handle completely off. Probably go back to my el cheapo frabill.

I have the same Ranger net many mentioned with the long handle and I like it. Plenty tangle/snag free and seems kind to the fish too. It is heavier but no problem handling it 1 handed when alone.

I also agree with Will. If the handle and hoop are still in good shape you should be able to find a replacement bag for it. Less money and should keep it working for you.
