Rjthehunter, the controversy is that state records cannot be legal if they are foul-hooked. They must be hooked in the mouth somewhere. This rule applies to most states. The issue at hand in this particular case is that the angler declares he hooked it in the mouth and the ND Game & Fish investigated it and their findings indicate otherwise. Quite simple, really.
I wasn’t there so I can’t comment on exactly what happened. I don’t know the angler either. So I have to trust what the state agency is doing and believe that their findings are legit.
gimruis, I fully understand the issue at hand. My statements were made to the people who think the fish was caught legitimately. When I say I’m not seeing what the controversy is, it’s because it’s clear that the fish was foul hooked based on it “coming in funny” and the hook being pulled from its back.
The worst part about all of this is now the guy is trying to live out a lie, but someone videotaped it and has evidence proving otherwise.
