What does your dealer handle? If he has both and the pricing is relatively close I would hang a Suzuki.

Like Dutchboy said factor in where you will get service. Merc has the XS in 115 4-stroke which is supposed to be a higher performance motor so it might be worth looking at. Check out weight differences especially if you carry a lot of gear and passengers. Will you add a kicker? If so factor that into the mix. Quicksilver oil is available everywhere at a reasonable price if you do your own maintenance.

I had a 200hp Suzuki that was the smoothest running engine I’ve ever seen (I’ve mainly had Yammies). However, I have a 2013 175 Verado with 430 hrs. and zero issues thus far. I think it may come down to dealers, which Merc clearly has the advantage in the midwest.

Suzuki. Especially if they have it in the HO version.

I think you can’t really go wrong with either. Doesn’t the Merc have a bit more performance, however?

They’re both great motors. If service by the dealer/mechanic of your choice isn’t an issue, I’d go with whatever is cheaper and never look back.

I’m a 100% Yamaha guy but I have heard nothing but good reports about a Suzuki. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy one.

I had a 2015 Suzuki 115 SS and I loved it. The only negative I have heard but didn’t experience is that it can take some time to get parts if needed. Personally I would by another Suzuki in a heartbeat. I too am a Yamaha guy but Suzuki is right up there too. I have been in a few boats with newer Merc’s and they were nice too. Tough decisions. There is only one motor brand I won’t buy again based on bad experience. Good luck with your decision.

They’re both good motors, I’m not sure you could buy a bad 4 stroke outboard right now. I’d base my decision on the info below… it points to better low end torque and hole shot for the Suzi.

The 115 Merc shares its block with the 90 and 75 models.
The 115 Suzi shares its block with the DF140.

Suzuki for me too. Nothing against the Merc, but I have ZERO complaints about my Suzuki (150). Its incredible how quiet and smooth it is. Buddies with 115 and 150 Yamahas cannot even believe how much quieter it is than theirs.
