Kudos to Mercury again raising the bar.

You guys have to remember, the world is 2/3rds water……our Midwest puddles are just a tiny fraction.

Mercury has been gaining a foothold in the saltwater market, and this new outboard will be an awesome option for a lot of big boats out there.

It literally blows the competition out of the water lol

Some newer big boats have an outboard weight rating, not a HP rating.

Yep. Heading down to the mecca of big boats, S. Florida & Keys, on Saturday. It’s crazy and cool to see the horsepower hanging off the back of some of those boats! Why have 6 450’s when you can get by with 5 600’s?

Yes the boats down by the keys make me drool a bit. Have even caught myself grunting under my breath over the HP on some of those boats.

I’m guessing they are adding a 500 to the lineup. Along with upgrades across the board like weight reduction etc. The only thing I’d bet 100$ on is that the price isn’t going down at all lol. My chin hits the floor when I see the prices they’re getting for these new motors. Warrior came out with their 23 foot boat, they hang a lot of 400 and 450s on the back of them, but wouldn’t a 500 look cooler?! What’s another 20k when you’re spending 120k on a boat already lol

Amazing to see a 600hp outboard, but i think the really interesting part is that it has lower unit steering and a 2 speed transmission! It really is a lot of cool engineering! Curious to see the reliability of the transmission and steering mechanism

I seen that it has a 2 speed transmission and a steerable gearcase. The steerable gearcase is a pretty cool feature. The attached link gives more deets.

I am more impressed by the transmission and steerable lower unit. Very cool to see.

Ok, I peeked at the performance data. 3 of these on the back of a 42′ Boston Whaler at WOT moved the boat at a respectable 63.7 mph. At that speed, they sipped gas at 156 gallons per hour.

If they were giving them away for free the fuel bill would still hurt. bawling I will stick with what I have.

If you can afford 3 of these on the back of a 42 foot boat, you’re not concerned about the fuel bill mrgreen mrgreen mrgreen

I’ll never know what it’s like to own one, but it’s pretty awesome engineering. Basically an I/O in an Outboard.

This could be the reason seven marine quit making outboard. My friend in Missouri has a 627 hp seven marine on a 21 foot yarcraft that thing flies

Good gravy. 48 cylinders pumping on that beast. And I thought I got poor gas mileage.

Dang, that’d be fun to pin that throttle at least for a while.

Going to be fun to see where this goes. Not that long ago Rangers flagship 621 maxed out at 300 ponies. Now it’s 400.

Hope fishing doesn’t continue to trend where golf went. Mostly for the wealthy…

I see a mandatory seatbelt, helmet and shin guard law coming with that many ponies.

I believe it. My FW’s cousin used to have a 40′ cig boat with twin 502 ci I/Os and told similar stories. It was loud and fast, though. rotflol

Want a little perspective? Twin 600s on the back of a 40ft SeaRay.

You thrash one, you’ll likely thrash two, and more likely all four.

I know Bravo3’s are similar to those and they are around $1000 each.

I am betting a thou won’t put you in the right ballfield for one of those props. Bet you could take one home for 1800 or more tho.
