I saw that little promo, but I am not convinced YET, that it means they are stepping into the trolling motor game. I think it could be the navigation by depth contour like you can do with the Terrova just getting incorporated with the Motorguide xi5.
I could certainly be wrong, and honestly I don’t really care for the follow depth contour on a map chip that is not very accurate anyway.
“If” this is true, do you think they’ll cut ties with motorguide????
I was never a big fan when companies started teaming up but this could really have an impact if you’re looking to connect machines.
Of Course. I jump in last year with Lowrance, then over the Winter decide to upgrade the whole system starting with a Terrova I link (not yet purchased) but I do get the Helix 9 Mega SI G2N for it, Wondering what I’m going to do with my Hook2. Maybe the Hook2 won’t be compatible with it and I’ll feel better about it.

My understanding is that Hook2 units don’t network with other units or TMs, period. Feel better?

You always want to let them work the kinks out for a year or 2 also. At least I do

Yep. I’m actually happy to be switching over to the Johnson Outboard system. Just not happy about the money I’ve spent on the decisions getting there. Why should that be any different than anything else though.
I’m not a fan of networking everything together anymore. More networking and electronics the more issues.
I’m running Garmin with minnkota in the future. Too many issues with the networked helix and the trolling motor not talking and the controller freaking out. Nothing worse than the controller losing connectivity and losing spot locking and drifting over a wing dam.
Mix in having to sequence all the software updates correctly and it’s too big of a pain to deal with.
I would never buy a first gen of anything, either.
After talking to a few people who should know, it’s been stated that their announcement will happen March 15th. Also I think there is some issues with Lowrance and Motorguide because I asked one of the guys if Motorguide was going to build them for Lowrance and he said definitely not. I got the impression after the conversation that Lowrance is seeing a lot of competition from Humminbird and Minnkota’s Ulterra. Actually they are probably losing market share and was lead to believe that Lowrances continued discussions with Motorguide about the next advancement in their technology yielded nothing. I run both an HDS Carbon’s and an i5, fabulous combination, especially their anchor accuracy. Yet as I get older the self deploying trolling motor is looking pretty nice. Also there is an opportunity to improve on Minnkota’s design as there has been some issues with the Ulterra. Never the less I am not giving up $10,000 worth of Lowrance based electronics (Sonic Hub, Sirius/XM. Structure scan 3D, all the cables, netorks, transducers) for a $2500 trolling motor than have to learn a whole new system, not saying humminbird is bad. I would however buy a equivalent capable Motorguide self deploy with the same anchor/jog functionality….don’t look like that’s going to happen.
This announcement is 3 days after the Motor Guide announcement for their new trolling motor.
