New Lazer Mag help

I just bought a new Lazer Mag and I’m having a few issues, I think it’s probably fixable DIY stuff though, I was hoping you guys could help me out :).

The auger starts fine, no problems there, and it seems to idle real well to. I started it a bunch and idled it for a few minutes multiple times before trying to cut a hole.

I took it out this afternoon to a local pond just to cut a few holes and make sure everything was in order. About 2/3rds of the way through the ice the engine killed. I restarted it and finished the hole and drilled another 8″ or so into another hole and it killed again. This time it wouldn’t start as easy, and when trying to prime it the little yellow/green hose came out(it came out right by the primer bulb).

I went out and tried again now and it started up great, I idled it awhile and then hit the throttle and just let it run full throttle for about 10 seconds and then it died again. I looked down and sure enough the hose came out again.

Is there a DIY solution to this? Can I just put a little super glue on the little plastic nipple that the hose fits over?

The other thing I’ve noticed is that after running it for awhile my clothes reek like gas. Not just a little bit, but a lot. I don’t remember my old auger smelling this much, is that just a first tank of gas thing? I noticed the gas tank looks like it has gas on the outside of it, just below the gas cap. I can’t imagine that’s normal but I can’t figure how gas would get on the outside way up there? I only filled it about 1/2 full for the first tank and I am using TruFuel 40:1.

There has been a few posts similar to this. From what I have read in those threads, the fuel lines coming off is a common known issue and also one that is easily taken care of by either the user or strikemaster. Some have purchased new fuel line and replaced the existing, some have put zip ties around the connections with the existing fuel line and others have taken it to a service center and they have replaced it for them.

Haven’t had the chance to get my new auger out yet but hoping I don’t have any issues.

With these machines there should be zero fuel escaping the fuel delivery circuit. If the fuel line is sound then either safety wire or cable tie them secure. If the lines are deteriorated get new ones that are certified fuel line.

A little update, I zip tied the little fuel into place so it wouldn’t come loose and that appeared to do the trick. I didn’t have any fuel leaking and the auger started and ran great. Man these things cut!

The only thing I need to figure out is how to get it to cut through the final inch of ice instead of break through. A lot of the holes I drilled yesterday it would break through the last inch or so of ice and then it was a pain to get out because it would only break through part of it, and I’d have to break the rest while pulling the bit out.

You’ll get a feel for the last two inches. I put a little down pressure and the machine will cut fast, but then seem like it got dull, that’s the last two inches. Let up on downforce and let machine shave those late two inches. You’ll feel the point break through and at that time almost suspend the auger and you should get a clean break through. All this is at full throttle, full rpm. Like I said, it’s a feel thing. Good augering.

This is exactly right, you will get the feel for it, the last few inches I let up on the throttle a little and take any downward pressure off the auger. Let it cut the last couple of inches a little slower and you will be fine.

Did you take an 8mm closed wrench and tighten the blades?
I just did this. It helped significantly with the last inch of ice.

I spoke to H2 Outfitters in Big Lake and they said these new solos are set up rather aggressive. I had the issue that it would buck at the last inch or two and damn near rip my arms off. He told me to hold it wide open throttle and have zero downward pressure, almost pulling up on it so it shaves the last inch.

Like everyone else has stated- you’ll get used to it and figure it out. Plus, with how fast you get to the last 2 inches you have time to spare while your buddy is pushing his auger as hard as he can to keep up!

Thanks for the tips, I’ll continue to tinker :). I did tighten the bolts on the blades but it’s possible they came loose so I’ll check that again.
