I am actually thinking about trying the torch. I can get one for $123 at fleet farm (on sale with 15% off) I like the chipper blade.

For saying how fast it was, they sure didn’t show it. I’m sure they drill as nice as any of the competitors

You want chipper blades get a Kdrill. You get two of them.
That rogue in the video looks like a big piece of you know what. Look at that thing shake. And how hard they are holding on. It’s electric I want smooth lite and fast.
Can probably get a deal on a propane auger now. jester

I picked up a Dewalt at a good price and needed an auger. Runnings had a Torch auger and extra blade in stock, so I picked them up. I was thinking of a Pistol bit, but they weren’t in stock and in today’s world you better get something when you can. So far so good. It cuts at least as fast as my propane Eskimo. One disclaimer – I have no personal experience with any of the other drill powered augers.

On a side note, I was in a couple of stores this weekend and it is nice to still see ice fishing gear on the shelves.

In looking at the business end of the torch, I’d spend the extra money and get a Nils convertible. The difference between good and great augers isn’t in the flights(the helix), it’s in the geometry of the cutting edge. Ask any machinist about center-cutting drill points and they’ll explain it.
I’m going on somewhere around 10-12 years of heavy use on my Nils and am just now considering a reshapening job. Even in it’s less than sharp condition, it smokes my buddies’ (plural) Ions. (And I’m only using an 18V drill!) My nephew uses a K Drill(which also smokes the Ions), but there’s something a little uncomfortable about mixing plastics and sub zero temps.
