more expensive & heavier than previous years…really?

I’ve never once thought the safety switch was an issue?

I can see how the previous wide handle bars caused issues drilling the corner holes in a perm house, good fix if it doesn’t effect drilling…

I guess the LED lights are cool if you drill alot of holes in the dark, but if the battery drain for the lights means it drills 1 or 2 fewer holes, i’d take the 1-2 more holes instead…

I’m a huge fan on my Ion auger, going on 4 years now…

Questions 1- They say they reversed the rotation. Is the new one going the same direction as last years or is that been changed? Answer: Same rotation as last years

2- Does last years have a brush-less motor or is that new also? Answer: Last years was brush-less also.

3-Is the new drill a REAL 8 inches? What is the cost of the drill alone? Answer- still 7 3/4 (that sucks but I’m used to it now) Not sure of price, I forgot to ask..

4-Are the batteries interchangeable? Not a biggie for me though as I’ve never had a problem in my application. Answer: Yes-interchangeable

I’m calling them this morning. Called them

I use two batteries so i’ll probably never need the newer more powerful version, it’s nice to know I could if needed though…I’m also happy to have an auger that’s 1 pound lighter vs one that’s narrower with LED lights..

Reed’s outdoors has the new Ion Xc5 Battery pack for $199, says it’s compatible with the old Ion’s…

I’ll wait to see what real world improvements this battery has over the original and then maybe look to pick one up 30-40% off in the spring clearance season…

Where did you see its heavier? Their website says both are 22 lbs – I could be missing something I guess.

I’ve absolutely loved my ION – best auger I’ve ever used. The one thing that’s always made me nervous about breaking is the trigger switch. The new flush mounted trigger is a great idea to resolve this. I like the new reverse switch as well – just cleaner handles all around.

The new center point and cast bottom should make it much, much better at re-drilling holes too. I’ll probably pick up the new version at one of the ice shows after I get a chance to handle one.

For some reason I had the 6″ version stuck in my head, that one weighs 21 lbs.
