Maybe you guys can help me out with some knowledge. I’m looking to buy a kastking speed demon as a beginner into baitcasting, and smaller/newer baitcasers in general. I have some older round style abu’s for big pike but im looking into more of something i can use for bass. I went with that reel because I’ve heard great things about kastking and it’s a 9:3:1 gear ratio and thats the fastest in production, also its only 70$. Im looking for a good rod under 100$ to pair with it as i only have 170$ to spend on the rig. Let me know your recommendations. Thanks

There are lots of great rods out there that would work. What I would do is look at what rods you have for pike and make sure you pick up something in a different lure weight range. Your pike setups will work for some bass stuff. Most rods one would use for pike are classified as bass or musky rods. What lures are you trying to toss?

A 9.3:1 gear ratio shock Why?

When it comes to rods and reels, I think buying online isn’t the best idea unless you know exactly what you want. My suggestion would be to go to a sporting goods store with knowledgeable fishing staff or even better a fishing shop and try out some rod and reel combos and ask for some advice from the employees. Being able to actually hold and feel the stuff is worth a lot, IMO.

Update: After researching rods i have come to a decision to buy a st croix bass x. My uncle has had the same st croix rod for 25 years. Bought it new for 200$ and he’s taken it shark fishing and done everything with it. The bass x costs 100$ and i hope to be a rod that lasts me as long as my ugly stick. Thanks all for opinions.

Agree 100%…after I posted here a couple days ago I thought later, oh no. Definitely want to hold and feel what you are looking to buy, especially a fishing rod.
