Lots of whispers about new ice gear being released are happening. I know how much every here loves Clam but their new gear will be released possibly as early as this weekend and I’ve seen Striker talking about some new things as well. Should be seeing new things pretty quick!

I got a TUCR Commander at the end of the season last year and didn’t get to use it so it might not be a new purchase, but I can’t wait to use it this season.

I found mine to be far too stiff to keep greenbacks pinned with barbless hooks. With barbed I’m sure it’s fine.

I like the look of the Northland Bro Bug Spoon.

Spending money on new ice gear pre-season used to be one of my favorite hobbies. I’ve learned what I need and what I don’t now, but love seeing the new stuff anyway. Hopefully they can keep shelves stocked but supply chain disruptions indicate otherwise.

I’ve caught more walleyes with a tip-up and 6″ sucker minnow than I can count so the tackle side of things doesnt interest me. Might look at a snare rod from JT.

They are sweet rods. I’d highly recommend

My buddy bought one and I didn’t care for it. Nice build but to much for the local fishing we do.

What is the difference between the G3N and G4N? Just wifi connectivity?

Was looking at getting the eskimo outbreak 650xd last year but the were all sold out quickly. Hopefully they are available this year again.

It sounds like Otter is going to have a large door like the outbreak this year. It will be interesting to see their design.

Daiwa is going to start making ice rods and St. Croix has a new series called Tundra to target the mid-level ($100-$130) shock price point ice rods. Sounds like I need to start charging more for the rods I make because I feel they are on the higher end of rods. At lease they didn’t call them “custom” ice rods. “Hand crafted” sound more like the term they should be using. “Simi-custom” still doesn’t rub me as wrong as “custom” does with full assemble rods you can’t make a choice on.

I was down at the ICAST Fishing Show last month and there are a ton of new products coming out. Lure Lock and Lakewoods have some new tackle storage bins coming out. Lakewoods has some nice bags for ATV’s and Snowmobiles. The new Frabil tip up that was said above is really cool and at decent price. Beaver Dam is coming out with a new Walley Tip Up and some new jigs. Beaver Dam is now owned by Acme Tackle Company so they just aren’t at the same quality as they use to be.

FXR has a nice floating Ice suit that I was very impressed with. I’m probably forgetting some but cool to see all the new products.

The only thing I want to see is the 24 volt Strikemaster available again.

I fished one all last ice season. By far the best panfish rod I’ve ever fished. Mine was in my hands about 90% of the time. I love my TUC rods but I wish they would offer a spring bobber rod. Anyone who tells you they can detect bites on a TUC noodle or bullwhip rod as well as on a spring bobber is wrong. Once again don’t get me wrong, TUC makes a EXCELLENT rod. Just not the best out there on days the crappies or Sunfish are biting REALLY light.

I already have new ice fishing gear for this year and I’m excited. I live by Elk River Rods. They had clearance custom ice rods last year but I didn’t pull the trigger. Kicking myself, this year I pounced on a 32″ Carbon – xp light xtra fast action. My first high end custom rod. Got $50 off and paid $90.
    Fish on!

Helix 7 G4n has 3 quick keys like others, wifi, two card slots and is live compatible. Looks to be a good unit.

Pry just a new 6″ & 8″ Lite Flite and a couple new spoons. Wondering if a guy should things now to make sure you’ll have them by ice season. With all the supply chain issues, wondering if there wont be much product to sell at the ice shows this year??

The Frabill Aerated tip-up might be something.

    <div class=”ido-oembed-wrap”><iframe loading=”lazy” title=”Frabill VYPR Aerated Tip-Up with Straightline Reel | Thermal Tip-Up with Built-in Aerator and Lighted Trip Indicator” type=”text/html” width=”850″ height=”550″ frameborder=”0″ allowfullscreen=”” style=”max-width:100%” src=”https://read.amazon.com/kp/card?preview=inline&linkCode=kpd&ref_=k4w_oembed_HPayjxJz4ujANZ&asin=B09245VTQ2&tag=kpembed-20″></iframe></div&gt;

I’m a little biased on this but in my experience if all it does is bubble it will only keep about a very small diameter hole open and the rest will still freeze up under 20 degrees.

And a higher resolution screen. The screen on the G4N is noticeably more crisp and detailed than previous Helix 7 units.

    James,
Do you know when they will hit the shelves? Specifically the ice unit? I also heard they are updating the battery to lithium?

100 percent agree. Wish they came in a 40 or 42” version, but waiting for the elliots to come into stock and I’ll grab one of each of those.

I’ve been told they’ll ship in Sept to the retailers.

Yup, the Helix 7 bundles come with a 15 AH Norsk lithium. The Helix 9 bundles with Mega Live or Mega 360, come with the 20.8 AH Norsk Battery. I’ve used those batteries for 3 years now and they’ve been rock solid so I’m happy to see that’s the battery Humminbird engineers opted to combo with their new shuttle. We’ve never had a single issue with those batteries and the USB ports built in to the Norsk batteries have been incredibly useful for powering cell phones and GoPros out on the ice.
