Hi all was just wondering if anyone has been using the new mega . I’m going to be selling me helix 9 si to get the new mega with the new terrova and just wondering if there is a big difference?
I just recently upgraded to a Helix 10 SI with the MEGA imaging. I can’t comment on the non-MEGA imaging because I haven’t used it prior but looking at side by side images online (http://www.humminbird.com/MEGA/), and based on what I was seeing on my new graph the other day I would say that yes, it is totally worth it. The side imaging resolution was unreal, specifically how well you could see fish.
I have been throwing these pictures about everywhere but I got my first on the water experience a couple weeks ago, planning on doing some more this weekend. These are a couple pics from the Helix 10 G2N. It was VERY crisp compared to the 1st Gen Helix’s. I could scan through sand flats searching for pods of fish, and easily pick out what schools of fish were carp from the shadows. I could see the shape, depth, and big tail to each fish that was up off the bottom, along with much better bottom separation to those fish that were “sitting” on the sand. The pictures were in 6 fow on the fox river, slack water, I have been throwing out the assumption it’s a muskie but regardless pike/muskie it was pretty unreal.
Also, I never played with the settings to get to some “special view” I simply knocked it down to 70′ each side, slowed screen scroll to 2 speed and watched.
Pretty incredible stuff as far as I am concerned!
I was going to get the Helix 10 SI Mega and move my 1198 up front. With the sales on the KVD Helix 12 SI Chirp Gen 1 for $1569 delivered for me it was a no brainer. I am very pleased with the 12 Gen 1
Are they going to be coming out with the mega on the helix 7?
Yes they are available at Cabelas online.

That’s just a typo on the cabelas online catalog. Still only available in 9,10, & 12 helix
not sure what this is….old fish house or some type of man made structure.
I went from a 999 SI and 898 SI to the Helix 9 MEGA CHIRP. I’ve not used the Gen 1 Helix. But dang, very very impressed with the new Helix MEGA CHIRP.
to me it’s like comparing TV’s that are 720p vs 1080p…. with Gen1 Helix you can clearly see fish or bottom structure like rocks with great resolution, with Gen2 I can now see that those fish fins are pointed instead of rounded? or that there appears to be moss growing on the rocks? Is that cool? sure!, but is it cool the 20th time you see it? meh? could the $500 difference be used for other cool things? yup…
I have a Gen1 Helix 10 si
On a buddy’s boat, I ran the MEGA 10 a week ago. I have to 2nd Jason’s post. We scanned the sand flats on the Fox River and could EASILY pick out carp by their shadows–how did we know they were carp?????? We caught them.
After running this unit, my helix 9 Gen 1 will be for sale (with HD ducer).
I can’t wait to get my Helix 10 with MEGA installed as soon as my 2nd Mega Transducer arrives from backorder.

You won’t find a HELIX 7 MEGA CHIRP SI G2N on the Humminbird website. They don’t make one.
