Hello everyone just joined, big fan of the show. I live in Thunder Bay, Ontario Canada. I’m planning on starting ice fishing this year, mostly for Walleye, Perch and maybe even big pike. Unfortunately no stores here carry VMC spoons. I have the chance at a local store to get some VMC Tingler spoons that the owner bought personally from the states. He has a few colors in 1/8th oz and a few colors in 3/8th oz. I was thinking the 3/8th may be better suited for walleye, what do you guys think? I know he has Perch color in both sizes, so I plan on buying both of those and he has pink, green and orange UV in the 3/8th oz spoons. No UV in the 1/8th as far as I could tell.. I also plan on picking up some ultra light rippin raps aswell.

    Thanks for reading.

I believe the larger spoon is 3/16 oz and yes it works well for walleye. It helps keep the 9″ fish in the lake from coming up and playing with your emotions. It is also more presentable to larger walleye that may not have turned in for the smaller vibrations of the 1/8 oz spoon. At other times, when the walleye just aren’t taking the larger presentation, you can downsize to the 1/8 oz and get better results.

Awesome thank you for the information Ben. I hope to see you on the show again. I can only watch on YouTube but I enjoyed both the trout and walleye show’s you were part of.

No problem bud and thanks. That walleye show is a perfect example of the Tingler. I believe James and Will were primarily using 3/16 oz Tinglers and catching some really nice walleye. I was mostly using 1/8 oz Slender Spoons and Tinglers on the sidelines, and while you didn’t get to see it, mine were all admittedly smaller. Now I’ve caught some nice walleye on 1/8 oz spoons, so I’m not afraid to use them. I usually start with the larger presentation and then downsize if need be.

I’ll probably grab a few of the 1/8th so I can downsize and maybe to try for Perch. I really want to order some Slender spoons and Lightning spoons, unfortunately right now the exchange rate is kicking Canada’s butt.

I’ll add that walleyes and perch have no problem hitting the #5 Rippin raps. I wouldn’t limit myself to the smaller ones. I myself like the #5 better than the ultra light.

Right now I have a #7 Firetiger and #6 Firetiger and Perch color.. The local walmart has Firetiger and Perch #5’s so I’ll pick up one of each. Then I plan on buying Ultralights in Firetiger, Perch, Helsinki shad and Orange UV. I’d buy the Green and Pink UV aswell but they are not available at Cabelas Canada.
