    I’ve got a 522. The head unit has never been a problem and the internal GPS works just fine. Like others, I now use mine primarily for ice fishing. The big problem I saw with Lowrance back in that timeframe was the quality of their transducers…. I’ve got birds on my boat now, but am certainly watching the developments from Garmin and others as I consider future upgrades.

    hey were do we get garmins at dealer costs as well?

    I run Hbirds have run the Garmins very nice units what holds me back from Garmin is I really want 360 and nobody else offers it. I am totally happy running my Hbirds have been since the first 797c2si unit came out and currently run 1198.

    Personally I would run the panoptix over the 360 smash

    The Garmin gps/map 840xs be a great unit. Though just over the $1500 price range and inch short of the 9inch display. Though, it is packed with amazing features.

    One thing, don’t let your unfamiliarity of Garmin scare you. They have been leaders in the gps/map sonar industry for a long time, its not until recently they are now focussing on us inlanders.IMO.
