I just put up a 30’x 36’garage to store all my hunting and fishing stuff. Just curious how you guys maximize your storage. I have seen some guys use pulleys to store ice shacks up near the ceiling which I am planning on doing. What setup works best for that? I am open to any and all suggestions and ideas! I never knew storage could be this exciting lol

how tall is your ceiling? I use the Racor ceiling hoists and they work awesome, but the higher the ceiling, the better as you need 2′-3′ for clearance if storing your ice shack…I have a 12′ ceiling so had to replace my cables with longer ones so the platform would lower down to the garage floor…Power drill it up/down is so easy, I also added some safety chains just in-case a cable gave way or something catastrophic happens and it doesn’t crashland on whatever is below…

I believe my ceilings are 9 or 10 feet. I have 8 feet doors.

x2 on the racor lift. I have an otter lodge and a otter medium sled stored on it. Really is nice. I havent used the drill attachment, in fact, I dont know where the adaptor is. The crank is a bit of a knuckle buster.

I use the overhead racks from Monsterrax. I have them above both my garage doors. They are adjustable and offer tons of storage. Just need to find a storage bin that fits the space you have once they are mounted. You can check them out here:

this is the power drill attachment, its about 30” long

Racor’s customer service is awesome, I bet if you called/emailed them they’d send you one…

Wall and base cabinets, shelves, free standing shelving, peg board , pulleys , eye hooks, …..

I haven’t parked a car in the garage for 28 years. It’s more like walking into a store than a garage.

In addition to my garage, I’m also modifying a pole barn for a loft, reloading room, game skinning room, and small repair/maintenance area for the mowers, atv, tractor….

I made my own Racor lift out of oak timbers with lag bolts (free dunnage from work), and installed a 120v winch in the rafters.

I made these rod racks this summer and really like them. My boat sits under them and I can stand in my boat to grab the rods I need.

Truer words have never been spoken. Wife asks me every 3 months why I’m reorganizing the garage, but she already knows the answer- because I have yet to find perfection.

I have the rod part, but cannot find the socket end for it. I am sure I can figure something out because my hands get so beat up using the handle.

I soon will be in the process of doing the same thing. I am going to start by adding a shelf around the perimeter 2 feet down from the ceiling to hold clear totes. Then I will bring the boat in and tools to see what I should do with the rest. It will take a couple of cases to figure it out.
I have an extension ladder lift in my other garage. That works on a pully system like the Racor hoist. It is fantastic.

A buddy of mine had those ceiling hangers in his garage and his insurance company made him remove them because the joist are not meant for extra load, in case of heavy snow fall.
Keep that in mind when hanging stuff.
I thought is was a crock, but if something collapses the roof and that is installed it may void insurance

Great general topic. If anyone has pictures of their garage storage ideas…I’m all eyes as I’ll be going through this soon too. My current attached garage I have down to a science and it is beyond neat. I’m borderline OCD by most standards. A new blank slate of a garage is going to be a challenge.

I’m debating purchasing one of the garage cabinet systems and installing it after a month or so to see how I use the garage. This would serve as the main point of emphasis, and continue buying pieces from there.

In my old garage I cut up some 4×4 and ran my outlets thru them on the shelving. It is so nice having the power up front when I need to plug something in. I also overhang the shelving for my camping stuff so I just need to stand in the truck bed to drop everything in. I put up a tarp like a shower curtain over my fishing stuff to help keep the dust off. These are some old pic and things have changed.

I would agree that you should not hang anything from the ceiling that will have weight to it.
