Just wondering if Marcum is coming out with anything new this year. And also looking for info on the RT-9(whether or not its worth the money and where you can find one for sale).

I didn’t have time to get by their booth at the RWI show this week. Heard a few guys talking about the “i” enhancement. Dave or James???: able to enlighten us?
I have no info on the RT9. I know there was an Ice Force Gathering on Friday but I was already committed elsewhere. ..
Look for some new updates to the flasher line up !!
I am Ice Ready !!!
Good to hear of some updates for LX7. I just added a post saying how my lx7 will not see anything closer than 5′ from my ducer. That would be a great fix!

Hi Justin – here’s a presser that should help explain the “i” series in detail. I’m planning on running an LX-5i this year.

See attached for a closeup.

VX-1i in my future – Hard to beat the value at $299
Here’s a closeup of that one!
Joel
I’m already running the LX3TC looks to be about the same thing.
What’s the price tag on the LX-5i?
I don’t see it in the link Joel provided
I like the look of that unit and might be interested in upgrading from my old LX-5
Thanks
MSRP on the new line should match prices from the last few years. Around $299/$399/$499 for the VX-1I/LX-3I/LX-5I
Preseason has discounts in play already so it’s a great time to shop
besides the dial/screen being different on the LX-5I is there any other changes? Got a friends and family week at Cabelas end of November $50 off, and enough points to make it very inexpensive. Be nice to upgrade flashers

The functionality will be exactly the same but usability will be improved in adverse conditions. The dial itself has a flatter profile which increases the actual surface area giving a brighter, crisper image especially in bright sunny conditions. The other main benefit is for fishing outside during snow it used to build up on the inside of the dial and was hard to wipe out (I always used to have to bend down and try to blow it out) which will no longer be the case on the new “flatscreen” units. It will also allow you to be able to view the screen from side angles much better than in the past.

Will the new units look more like the Vexilar FLX28 type of display with the “I” series?
Looks like I’m going to have to buy another Flasher. The showdown will have to go to the little man I guess!
So no word on RT-9? Is there a gag order or something?
My understanding is that there are many hoops to jump through to get a product licensed once you once it has connectivity (FCC, etc.) I wish I had more info to share but I really don’t know any more than that.

So is the LX-5I another motor unit?

It is still a motor unit just with an improved display. I don’t know a lot about the Vexilars and haven’t had a chance to compare them side-by-side but I think the display on the vexilar’s still has a raised edge around the outside that could catch snow while fishing outside.
Thanks Will. I do not know how you got me quoted on the second question though. LOL I will never knock vex as a company but personally I am a MarCum user to the end and was not impressed with my buddies FLX28 in any way shape or form.
Joel, you ole dog you, you’re even on the box! Cool.
I wasn’t good enough to make the LX-3 or LX-5 box, maybe this year!

Picking up a new LX-5i at the Blaine Hard water expo. Cant wait to get it out on the ice this year. Got a chance to look at them at Joe’s sporting goods last weekend and they’re legit!
how important is the flexible zoom to most guys? I have a FL-20 with ability to zoom on bottom six or twelve and that seems to be fine? How often do you zoom on like a middle zone say?
This Marcum 5i looks nice but seems to be same as what I have for most part.
Joel what is best place to get hands on new lures and jigs for this season. The show in MN/St Paul either I am not seeing it or is not the place?
So I have the LX-3tc and I use my flex zoom a lot. It works great for fishing suspended crappies or any suspended fish for that matter. If all you ever fish is the bottom there is no need for it, but when a big school comes in at 6 ft off the bottom it is really nice.

I’d say that it depends on what’s more important to you, price or selection. I’ve been a fan of ordering stuff online now for years. Work with the retailer you like best, large or small, pay the price you’re willing, and view full stock in colors, sizes, and selection. I’m pretty picky on the sizes and colors of what I like, so I try to do much of what I can online, from tackle to boots to whatever.
If price is primary, it’s tough to beat the shows. St. Paul, Blaine, Cabela’s Ice Classics, Gander first ice, Joe’s, Thorne Bros., and Reeds ice events. You’ll see promo prices and deals you can’t walk away from. Will they have exactly what you need? Sometimes yes and sometimes no.
