Today the DNR announced New regs for walleye, Bass and Pike.

For walleye this year will be catch and release only entire year, except July.

During July, walleye fishing will be Closed.
During July, fishing for other species, NO live bait allowed, except for Sucker minnows over 8 inches when fishing for Pike and Muskie.

They think no other closers will be required. That means we should be able to fish walleye in the fall.

I don’t care if I keep a walleye or not and only fish the lake in the spring and fall when the shore bite is on. I am pleased with the choice being made for once.

Would have been nice if they would have kept it open at least through the holiday. Resorts will take a big hit on that one.

Yeah, I’m definitely one of those guys who thinks people need to get over this CPR deal and just learn to live with it, but this sucks a big one and I’d be super pi$$ed if I was a business owner up there. Shut it down August, or earlier in fall, over the holiday is just fuel to the fire.

Along with this covid going around, wish all resorts everywhere in the state good luck.

Not trying to be a conspiracy theorist or start any sort of debate, but is it possible that they are trying to drive people out of that area so that they can give/sell the land back to the tribe? The politics surrounding that lake are mind boggling to say the least.

I doubt the DNR has that kind of agenda, I think they are trying a new method of lowering hooking mortality.
The July bite is usually pretty deep. Bringing fish from. 30 + feet into warm water is tough on fish.
However I do think the bands would love to see everyone leave so they can buy up everything in sight.
