AS I said, JUST AN OBSERVATION
I went there cause my kid wanted to.
I stopped shopping there ( yes I bought baseball and soccer stuff for my kids back when)
I did NOT expect to see 3 miles of fishing gear shelves. Just was a little disappointed that it was so minimal – fishing IS a sport.
‘House” of sports implied something different to me. It is a “cursory” effort on their part to cater to as many “sports” as they can. God bless and good luck with that. But again, once they left their business plan to join the anti gun crowd I ceased to shop there. As stated earlier, I shop/vote with my feet as well.
I agree that the brick and mortar mindset is hard to fathom, I still don’t see how Scheels can make that work but there are smarter more experienced minds than mine making those decisions.
I loved the old days of shopping in a store like a Scheels or BPS but those days feel like they are coming to a close for the most part. One more thing that time changes.
    MY opinion, MY observation.
    Not trying to ruffle feathers.

I still buy 90% of my stuff in the store, including fishing tackle. I prefer to pick it up, touch it, and make sure its the right item. It may cost more, but I get to avoid shipping costs and delays. I’ve never been much of an online shopper, period. A lot of people here poop on Cabela’s but they still have by far the most fishing tackle of any retailer I frequent. Its not even close.

I will check it out at Ridgedale sometime.

They have some good deals through youth baseball associations. I have gotten stuff there when my Scheels didn’t have what we were looking for or a better promotional price…. again for baseball gear ONLY.

Never even walk through the outdoors sections…. why would I?

They did close the Hopkins X road and 394 store when they opened the House of Sport. I visited the grand opening since it came with a 30% or something gift card. I agree the fishing selection was underwhelming for what is supposed to be a destination sporting goods store. Probably won’t go back unless they give another discount/gift card that can be combined with price matching because their prices NEED to be matched. They list above Cabelas prices from what I’ve seen. I also do 90% of my sporting goods shopping in store but have noticed over the years how Cabelas (and most big outdoors stores) have given more and more of their footprint to soft goods (clothing) which bugs me, but I see the business reason why since they have the highest margins per space.

Look at how much square footage Scheels devotes to clothing and you see why it rules the roost at all of the other sporting good stores, too. These are the labels that people — especially kids — want. I wouldn’t be surprised that many teens do most of their back-to-school shopping at Scheels.

I shopped at Dicks for fishing stuff back when I lived on the east coast and it was the only place to buy that stuff nearby outside of Walmart and the new closed Sports Authority. I got a few things there, but not a whole lot.

No one is making much money off of a pack of jigs or plastic worms. I get why the sporting goods stores keep their selection limited.

There is a difference in voicing ones personal opinions… when you attach it to a business, you are using a platform that more than likely, has employees and customers who’s views differ. But who am I to try to stop a CEO from cutting their own throat. In fact, here’s a knife. I assume they don’t carry them ? Never been in one.

Oh definitely. Businesses have a lot of stakeholders as you mentioned, like employees, the public, customers, investors, fans if you’re in entertainment or sports, etc. You can always say/do nothing, but certain segments of society are expecting more out of businesses in regards to public or hot-button issues. I’m fine with businesses just remaining neutral and sticking to what they do, but that’s just me, and it’s a decision they’ve got to make.

My point was more along the line of the outrage shown here. Businesses, celebrities, athletes, etc. voice or share their views all over the place, all the time, across all political spectrums. And the majority of people on here only express outrage when those views don’t align with theirs. And that’s where my point comes from: The people aren’t upset (as they claim) that someone or something expressed their views or took a stance, they’re upset because that stance or view is different than theirs. And if someone else does it, they’ll look down their noses and label it “cancel culture.”

    Well said !

Ironically, I believe they started as an fishing shop – doesn’t every store have kind of a “History of” picture along with a paragraph of how it all started by their doors?

But yeah, terrible hunting/fishing dept. Not bad for youth sports and they actually have pretty affordable bikes for the kids or casual biker.

I go to Scheels for everything else.

Pretty certain Dicks doesn’t care what a bunch of live bait fisherman think.

Personally I don’t care if they sell guns or not.

Dutchboy, how’s the water level on Rainy doing? My sister has a place on the North Arm and I like to go there around the 20th of July.
Any insights would be hugely helpful. We launch at 5 mile dock

I was down in Texas over the 4th and the family down there brought up the changes to clothing departments in Target which had gone unknown to me since I do not watch news anymore. Apparently they have an entire clothing department now dedicated to “gender neutral”. Why not just shop in which ever department you prefer to wear that particular type of clothing? I dont give a rip what you wear or in which Dept you get it.

I purchased a Savage varmint rifle from Dick’s many years ago – special order since I am a lefty. Sadly they diminished their hunting footprint over time, eventually discontinuing all guns and ammunition.

Dick’s sponsored Little League and Babe Ruth teams when my son was playing ball in the 1990s/2000s.

Dropping daily. Although we have gotten a couple inches of rain between yesterday and today. They are saying mid August it should be at normal levels. Dry hot weather is on the way so it will continue to drop.

Last I looked the only access still not open on this side is Borman.

I haven’t been in the new Dicks House of Sport at Ridgedale yet, but I drove past the old one off 394 and Hopkins Crossroad and it is in fact closed. The signage is completely gone so all operations from that location have been moved to the new one at Ridgedale.

Never thought about getting ammo there. I always go to other places. But they do have great deals on there flash sales. I have bought many tree stands , trail cameras climbing sticks and scent crusher bag at very large discount price’s. I get the notice daily on the flash sales. They don’t always have something I need but if I can get it for half price I will if needed.

Well I finally made it to this new Dicks House of Sport at Ridgedale last week. Is there even ANY hunting or fishing stuff of any kind in there at all? If there is, I didn’t see it. The top floor was entirely athletic clothing and the main floor was shoes and gear for organized sports and golf.

Maybe I missed an area but this is quite appalling if they completely got rid of all their fishing tackle and hunting stuff.

The Eastern sweat shops crank out apparel for almost nothing. The American public doesn’t care to pay for quality anymore. Buy the cheap stuff, mark it up for a huge profit, take your quality stuff and really jab them pricewise and you needn’t mess around with jigs and bullets’ where you make pennies.

Basic economics, buy low sell high.

If stores made money off tackle they’d have it, fact is that’s not their demographic anymore. Corps follow the #’s and if the #’s aren’t there neither will be the product.

The lower level had the fishing gear that I went to, don’t recall which one tho, decent selection.

Oh well. Go a few miles over to Omnia Fishing in Golden Valley and get quality tackle and equipment, in the specific sizes and colors you really want. Not what you have to settle on like at Dick’s or FF.

Ya that place is legit. Or a few miles the other direction to Scheels in EP as long as they haven’t removed their tackle for winter yet.

I heard Omnia is moving to a bigger location in Shakopee in the future.

We keep a family list of “no go’s”. Dick’s is #2, right after Mall of America.

Was it in the kids section or adults section? I think it’s a great idea to offer variety. Not all young girls like to wear pink or bright colors, but they need sizes that fit. I often shop in men’s dept for tshirts, partly because I mostly only wear black & gray. But also because women’s clothing usually has obnoxious patterns, colors, and shapes.

Lol awesome. Pass that hatred down through the generations. In 2052 IDO will have posts about dicks discussing that one time in 2018 a CEO had an opinion we didn’t like lol

To each their own on where they wanna shop…. Dicks is not an Hunting and Fishing store as that is not the demo they wish to target. They have a good selection of sports equipment and clothing and “high end” outdoor wear. that’s what they have. I don’t get why anyone would be upset about that.
