I have a good friend who has a seasonal site on the Island campground in Hagar City WI, as many of you probably already know construction will start this year on a new Bridge in Red Wing & Hagar City that will take 3 years to complete. As of yet the DOT has not informed the owners of the Island campground if access to the campground will or will not be cut off this year due to construction. Just wondering if there is anyone out there who has any inside info that could shed some light on this?

This is the first time I’ve heard of a new bridge. Didn’t they just completely repaint the old bridge a few years ago? Is the old bridge staying put during construction?

The DOT mentioned the Red Wing bridge was the next on the list when they were finishing up on the Hastings bridge.

It’s separate but part of the whole Hwy 61 improvement in downtown Red Wing.

I would think and hope so, it would be a long way around to get from Red Wing to Hager City other wise.

My friend called the MN DOT today and here is what he found out.

You can tell the guys on IDO that a phone call was made to MD DOT construction manager, Terry Ward. Very nice guy, and lots of good info.

Yes, campground will remain open. Business as usual, but the boat ramp will need to be relocated.

Noise will be monitored, keeping the activity of driving pilings etc. to daytime only, cut off during evenings and weekends.

When crossing the bridge entering into WI, the (first left turn) road in will be closed during construction. The new access point will be at the Woodshed, and will need to take the frontage road back to the Harbor Bar/Campgrounds.

Just found a news story saying it will be a 3-4 year project and the old bridge will be demoed after construction is complete.
