New boat sales – slow dealer follow up

I have made the trek to 2 fairly reputable Twin Cities area boat dealers to bring my boat for trade in on current inventory. Both situations they said they’d get back to me with a trade number and final price on their inventory boat.

Ball is clearly in their court and I haven’t heard anything back from either (one dealer two weeks, the other only 2 days). So it makes me wonder, are they less interested in a sale this time of year? Do they expect me to keep checking back?

I’ve been in sales a long time, I thought getting rid of inventory near end of season would be more of a priority.

being around sales daily at work… why would you not get that number when you were there ? ???

They ballparked me on my trade but were to get back to me with options, rigging and final price on the inventory boat to determine a net purchase number.

It’s just the way it is with dealers of a lot of things in the Cities. Just by nature of where they are located, they are guaranteed to sell stuff. Why bother with good service? That’s hard work.

As others said, just think of the awesome after purchase service you’ll get.

    Frydog,

Check in with Dean Marshall at Skeeter Boat Center.

I worked with him at Everts Resort for 6 years and that guy knows how to take care of customers. Even if you aren’t looking for a Skeeter or Warrior, you’ll never regret the relationship (or customer service).

Thx BK, have heard nothing but good about Dean from others and I also know Eric B… would buy from those guys in a heartbeat based on reputation. Just haven’t been able to find the Skeeter or Warrior that fits my style of fishing yet. (In other words, they make too high quality of boats for this washed up amateur ;)

Hey HRG, hope your back to 100% these days… good to hear from you —

Ideally I find a new side console Ranger 618VS but unfortunately they haven’t been made in 10 years.

Thanks, there’s a nice one on WC too. If I could sell my boat outright in time I could go the used route and both of those look very good.

Otherwise trade my boat to a dealer on new. If they made a 17.5-18 foot version of the Lund Pro-V Bass or Tuffy X-190 I’d pull the trigger for new. I just don’t want something quite as big as the versions that are currently being offered.

I’m 90% bass and 10% jigging for walleyes. Hard to find a good all purpose boat for that split. Most are either all walleye platform or all bass. Maybe I stay with a tiller like the 1775 Pro Guide…it’s versatile any way.

In my experience buying boats from 2 twin Cities dealers they were great during the sale, not so great after the sale.

Not all metro dealers have poor service.

Definitely 2nd Brian’s response here!! I’m from SE Wisconsin and can vouch for the service you get from SBC will be 2nd to none.

Based on that service alone, I’m more than happy to make that drive to Eric and Justin at their Chippewa Falls location (as an example) in order to get that before and after sales service they provide.

I’ve bought new from SBC AND I’ve done a trade with them and both transactions were outstanding!

Good luck with your trade and MAKE SURE you take a test ride in an 1825 MX and compare it to that 618 and Tuffy X-190 before you make your purchase.

I made the move from ZX bass series boat to the MX series and from a guy who now chases bass, walleye, and muskie I couldn’t be happier with how multi-purpose my boat is.

    Just my 2 cents
