Anybody here plan on getting into a new boat in 2020? Will you be going new or used? Are you up-sizing or downsizing? Took a stroll through Frankies today, lots of options in glass and aluminum. Nothing really grabbed me except how wide the boats continue to get. grin

Since it’s raining, sleeting, snowing it got me to soft water thoughts again. lol

Yes, the only thing more impressive then these boats are the price tags. frown Doesn’t seem to deter sales though.

Have you seen the price tags on the new Nexus 22’ with Merc 400? $105k… those are some pricey walleyes…..

Any brand whether it’s Vexus, Ranger, Skeeter or Lund is gonna push the 100K mark when you start hanging 400hp motors on them. 5k in electronics, trolling motors, kickers, trim tabs yada, yada the list goes on! jester

Anyway, anybody thinking of changing boats?

I sure can’t afford a new boat, wouldn’t want the payments either. I bought a brand new Yamaha outboard 3 years ago for my 1995 Lund. This year I’ll be getting a new trailer for it. She still floats and catches fish!

I am, may be time to upgrade the Smokercraft side console to a full windshield… I am looking at early to mid 2000 Lund fisherman or the Alumacraft trophy. Certainly need to adjust the price for the transom replacement on the Lund… I have been getting quotes for 3000 to 3500 for that to be done. Seems high, but maybe lots of work involved as well. Any leads on preowned models appreciated.

Oh yes, probably a new Ranger 620 Cup in my near future. Current 620 blew off lift in Oct and was totaled. For the last couple of months it has been a lot of fun to look at new boats, but no so much fun to try and figure out what a reasonable price is. The boats I have looked at in addition to Ranger 620 Cup are Warrior and Skeeter. It is hard to look at Vexus DVX20 as they are not at dealers, but there might be one at the upcoming Sportsman Show.

I will probably be ordering at the Sportsman Show.

Also kind of fun to pick out my own colors. My granddaughter over Xmas choose a lime green!!!!

The good thing with boats is at least they hold their value. I got the same cost out of my totaled 2011 620 as what I paid for it as a one year old boat in 2012.

But yes if you want a 22′ with big engine, $$$$$$$$

I just bought a 2020 Alumacraft Escape 165 tiller in the khaki color (camo). They are rigging it as we speak. Probably pick it up sometime in the next couple of weeks.

A few years ago no pitchers in baseball threw 100 mph. Now they are all over. Boats are becoming the same way. Fortunately there are many, many boats that are well set-up that can be had new for under $40K. If you want to go used those are out there also.
Seems we spend what we can afford to get what WE WANT not necessarily what WE NEED to have fun.

Boat shopping and cruising showrooms in the winter is my favorite activity since I don’t ice fish. Every once in a great while somebody sells me a boat. doah

    I bought it in 2017 and it was used. It’s a 2014.
Had a guy contact me about selling it so thought I might start digging around just in case. grin

Had the same thing happen with my Skeeter. Guy wanted to buy it so……..I ended up scrambling to replace my boat in the middle of the summer. doah
Don’t want that to happen again.

I don’t get to attached to my boats. They come and they go.

Get rid of your kids and the money flows like water. That’s how you afford a new boat with all the bells and whistles.

    $75,000 boat
    $20,000 down
    5% interest
    144 months

    = $509/month for 12 years after 20k down

Man, that gets into the “major life decisions” category for many people. I’ve never pulled the trigger and am actually glad I haven’t. Maybe someday.

Expensive boats aren’t for everybody thats for sure. However some guys have the job to support the hobby. Some guys have the wives to support the hobby. Some guys are single and don’t drink….they got money to burn! Some guys buy & sell boats to work their way up. Some guys finance them. Doesn’t matter to me I can only do what I wanna do not what anybody else does.
Years and years ago I fished a Bass Club and over half the tournaments were won with aluminum boats with less then 60 hp motors. Seems the fish didn’t care what the boat costs! Uh, who knew. laugh

Bought a 2016 alumacraft competitor brand new and it’s the last new boat I’ll buy. That was always the plan. I will either own this boat forever or if I sell I’ll be downsizing to a cheap 14 ft tin tiller.

I’m looking at a new boat but no where near $100k. Lowe’s FS 175 for around $25-30k. Almost pulled the trigger this fall but wife needed a new vehicle. Bummer.

    Randy,

I have debated this in my head often. My biggest fear is that the previous owner didn’t maintain it either as they couldn’t afford the payments. The few repos I have looked at, the credit union didn’t allow me to have an inspection done at my cost. I am pretty confident that you have more experience and a better eye for tell tail signs of possible issues.

I know a few people with rigs similar to this price point. I also know they didn’t put down anywhere near $20k. Those payments have to be brutal to be making 5-6 years down the road at this time of the year looking out the window watching it snow or sleet for 5 months shock

I try to do annual or bi annual makeovers so that my boat always seems like a new boat to me. This year was changes to my seating.

I am looking at possibly selling my warrior tiller to go to a bigger side counsel… looking for a 18 or 19 footer with a four stroke. Tough to find on the used market and I can’t pay cash for a new one so i will likely just keep the warrior.

My boat will be new for the 2020 season.

I traded my 17’Lund for a used 620 ranger a few weeks ago. Looking forward to the first river fishing trip in a few weeks.

    Thank you. Yes we will.

It’s basically ready to go with good electronics and a newer Minnkota ulterra.

My wife wanted the full windshield and a Bimini top. That’s all she wanted and said to get it.

Bought my 1650 crestliner new 20 years ago and change. Since have updated the motor- 2002 merc 4 stroke. Regular updates to trolling motor and electronics. Rebuilt the decking a few years ago. Boat has more scratches than I can count but when I need to get 40 miles out on Nipigon it comes through just like a 100k boat. I have to pick my days but it does what I need. Always something better to chase. I’m just happy I have what I have! If the economy tanks tomorrow my boat will remain in my garage for whenever I call on it!
I am a bit jealous of fancy boat guys though. Sure is some nice stuff out there if a bit over priced.
