How soon do most start putting out grape jelly and Oranges to try and attract Orioles?

Not really, I hang mine from a tree and dont spend time looking to see what other scavengers might be on there, but I have never noticed an ant.

Ants are a fact of life. Like Capt’n I don’t spend a lot of time watching for the little suckers. Besides, Orioles will eat ants along with the nectar, oranges and jelly. Other birds eat them too.

My girls wanted hummingbird feeders that suction cup to the window so they can see them closer. Its like an ant parade up and down the window.

Its one of those things you deal with. Seed feeding brings mice. The nectar and jelly bring ants.

I love feeding birds. Especially the various woodpeckers. I pay a price tho. One pecked a hole thru a 1″ board on my gazebo. And a couple others tag teamed and put big holes in a trim piece on the front of the house. It is made out of some type of compressed material not wood.Maybe they didn’t like the food.

If you keep a suet feeder handy they don’t tend to knock on wood.

I keep suet as the last thing for the birds just to keep the woodpeckers from attacking the wood on thew house. Once they’ve done the breeding thing they won’t bother the wood on houses so much. If one is persistent, the pellet gun is sure remedy.

Oh boy! LOL. I saw a video of this bird feeder you could put in an open window and the birds come “inside” a bit. It was a video of someone’s GSP pointing that little goldfinch! LOL

Sorry for the bad picture but can anyone tell what kind of bird is this? They are there year round near Tower. They’re bigger, maybe twice the size of a usual robin.

Looks like a grey jay or camp robber to me.

Thanks, to both of you, Grey Jay definitely looks right. I might still call them Northern Fatboys but it’s good to know real name finally lol
