I purchased a new boat license. On the tear off tab it reads I must
drain my boat and pull the drain plug while transporting the boat.
Nothing is said about drying the boat for five days.

Was there ever anything mentioned that MN would have a 5 day dry period?

That would never go over in MN, mass uproar…

I know they changed the slogan to clean/drain/dry and some of the newer signs at launches (observed one at the canoe launch on nokomis last week) suggest the 5 day dry period, but I don’t believe the dry period is technically part of the law.

Sounds like a great way to slash fishing license sales. You’d only be able to fish one body of water in any 5 day period.

5 day dry period just means I need 6 boats to keep in rotation. Heck yes!

    Wright county.

    Regional inspection station

    $1,000 fine

    Closer than you think

Articles about it always include “it’s a good thing!”

I’ve yet to read anything from the DNR that indicated they thought that program was a success and could be a model for the way forward in this state. It was still technically in a “pilot” stage this year as the 2017 pilot was only 3 weeks in October. The DNR has been quoted as being “not enamored” with the project. Now that they have a year of data to look at, we’ll see what happens going forward.

There have been articles that show both sides as well. This one comes it mind. The DNR specifically questions the intelligence of doing this on lakes that are already infested, acknowledging that the process should be reversed — exit inspections instead of entry.

Here is a link to the latest on The Wright County AIS program.

It is dead for now. They may try to spin this in the future, so watch for other clever ways they will try to privatize the lakes.
See the full board discussion in the video replay, the boat inspection topic starts at 1:49:50
