Hi all, I’m pretty naive when it comes to Humminbird systems, so bear with me…I have a few questions.

My current boat, I bought used. It came with an 1198 in the back and a 998 on the bow. I recently purchased a Helix 10 g3n that I’d like to use as my primary graph in the back (tiller). I’d like to use the 1198 as my mapping unit and the Helix as my SI/DI/2D graph. So here come the questions.

Are the 1198 and the Helix able to “talk” to each other? If I hit a waypoint on my Helix, will it show up on the map page of the 1198?

If I want to use the auto chart live feature, would I have to use a separate transducer for the 1198, or can it pull that info from the Helix’s ducer? If the 1198 can use the Helix’s depth readings, does the Helix have to be in map mode or can I have the full screen dedicated to SI?

Will the 1198 need a dedicated GPS feed? It currently has a cord from the GPS puck, but I’d like to plug that into the Helix for better accuracy. If the 1198 doesn’t need separate GPS and transducer feeds, I will only need to supply power and ethernet connection to the unit, is that correct?

Sorry, that made sense in my head, hopefully you can interpret, lol.

The Helix and 1198 will not share anything even the ethernet boxes are not the same so no way to link them. That is the way I understand it.

So if I understand what you are saying, my current ethernet hub will not work with my Helix?

Your ethernet hub will work, you’ll just need the adapter cable for the Helix which is about 12″ long and the appropriate length cable to your hub.
You can share waypoints, that would be the extent of the sharing due to a Helix/Non Helix configuration setup.

I’ll be swapping my 800 series units with 2 Helix 9 Chirp MEGA SI+ GPS G3N.
Will be keeping one of the units on the dash for mapping only and networked to the Helix units and Ipilot Link

From the Humminbird web Networking Chart:
Ethernet Cable = AS EC10E, AS EC 15E, AS EC 20E or AS EC 30E, selecting the length needed. If more than 30 feet is required, purchase AS ECX 30E plus additional length
1 Waypoints, routes and tracks along with i-Pilot Link, 360 Imaging and CHIRP RADAR are shared. NMEA 2000 can be used at the same time with one drop direct to ONIX/ION and one drop to the NMEA2000 Gateway.

2 CHIRP Sonar will only be shared with other HELIX networking models with software version 1.350 or higher.

3 MEGA Imaging sonar will only be shared with other HELIX G2N and newer models or with other SOLIX models.

    Hope this helps

You can also share 2d from your Helix but you have to turn off chirp on the Helix’s 2d transducer settings. The core model does not read chirp.
