I know Helix units can be networked to share waypoints with a hub, but I can’t remember if each unit has to have its own Lakemaster chip for mapping purposes. I knew the answer once, but can’t recall… anyone??

    They each need a chip.

    They each need a chip.

    That’s what I thought…

Let’s see, I have chips for 4 states… and now need duplicates at $125 each. I need to come up with another $500 just to share waypoints on a map!

Welcome to the club. I have 2 older lowrance units too. And a set of Lakemasters for them also. Thinking of selling them off and getting a Helix 7 for the sled/ATV. Then I just need one set of chips (2 each).

We should start a chip-sharing site – kind of like Spotify for music. Have a pool of various chips and a bunch of users to check them out and share as needed, then return for the next guy.

$1000 in chips for one guy is kinda crazy – –

I’m actually surprised that someone hasn’t done that yet. Heck, my chip spends 51 weeks a year just sitting in the slot doin’ nothing.

I hear ya, I might use my Minn chip the most… but the Dakota’s, Rainy and Wisconsin chip collect mostly dust…

and then when you put a 3rd unit on your boat…lol.

keep in mind that you don’t need a Lakemaster chip in the unit in order to share and display waypoints. the waypoint and associated icon are saved on your unit and will still display on any map, including the unit’s basemap or a different brand of chip.

in my case, i both cast and troll from the back of my boat, so the unit on the bow is really a courtesy for guests who are fishing up front. i’ve got 2 Lakemaster chips each for MN, WI, Rainy/LotW, and Great Lakes in my rear units for all of the functionality they offer when paired with the iPilot Link. but i put a Navionics North chip up front so the guest has a map and can view waypoints; it covers all of the upper Midwest at the same price as a single one of those Lakemaster chips. imho the Lakemaster is better, but for the price the Navionics chip is a good option depending on what your needs are in that additional unit. (if i was driving/trolling in the cockpit, and casting in the bow, i’d have a Lakemaster in each spot.)
