For any of you who were unaware, this was reported by the Mille Lacs Messenger on Wednesday 5/11/2016. My neighbor witnessed this event unfold, and thinks there could be more than one net missing. Not officially confirmed or (confessed yet).
Furthermore at the end of the article it states that the perch harvest was 352 pounds as of last Friday. All that netting activity for a minuscule amount of perch?? Yea sure…
“Rumors of a missing Tribal net were confirmed by Charlie Rasmussen of the Great Lake Indian Fish and Wildlife Commission. The net was set by a Lac Courte Oreilles Tribal member netting for perch at the north Garrison public access on the evening of April 29. When the Tribal member returned the next morning, April 30, the net appeared to have gone missing.
The Tribal member returned to shore and immediately reported the missing net to GLIFWC game warden.
“GLIFWC law enforcement takes this very seriously,” Rasmussen said. He explained GLIFWC officers spent three days searching the area for the net using side scan radar and dragging techniques. The net was nowhere to be seen.
Rasmussen could not comment further as there is an ongoing investigation.
Tribal harvest to date
As of Friday, May 5, the poundage of Tribal harvest was reported to be:
