Anybody have any reports around the Nelson/Alma backwater area? I haven’t been out for a couple weeks…been a tough bite so far for me this year. I’m gonna get out this weekend somewhere not sure where yet. Also is there a night bite at all, thinking of going out Friday night after work.

My brother fished by the Alma dam 2 weekends ago down the dyke road and they never got a single bite. And there was 5-6 guys fishing

Yikes…I was up on Mille lacs that weekend…same results. Big cold snap killed the bite

Was downriver from alma in buffalo city during a contest. Caught panfish, all small. Six vehicles where you walk under the tracks south of alma, only one vehicle when we headed home at “prime time”. Tough bite with this cold weather for sure.

Kirk, is there public access in the Buffalo city area or is it all private? Took a drive around there once ice seemed sketchy and didn’t see much for access…that was quite a while ago tho.

The north access landing is gravel, and the south access is federally funded paved with parking.

When I drive to a spot fishing is usually just okay to bad. If I walk I do well.
    Is it the vehicles noise?
Is it the time of year? (I walk early & late ice)
Is it that I am on a walk on only lake?
Is it that when I drive I go to more community spots because I am a big chicken?

Kirk, how is the fishing on spring lake historically? i have always wanted to try it but it’s quite the drive for me. i would think it gets hit hard in winter because it is one of the few places to access easily. do people drive on the ice or is it walking only?
